I'm a us citizen my husband is a Guatemalan citizen and I just had a baby here in Guatemala I need to register my baby with renap for his birth certificate but the issue I am having is my us passport has my married last name so they want my baby's birth certificate to have my husband name 2x because here in Guatemala you take the mother's last name and father's and since my passport is my married last name. Has anybody had this issue and have a idea how to fix it we tried using marriage license but they said they only accept passport as id

Try taking your passport to the US Embassy with your Divorce Decree, Marriage Certificate and your present Passport with married name and request a new Passport with your married name. It'll take a few weeks but then you can take care of your business and get a US Passport for your baby.

My passport had my married name but not my maiden so renap will not give baby my maiden name just double my husband's last name for instance maiden name let's say is Smith married name is Lopez. My passport says Karen lopez my husband is Lopez do they want to give baby Joe Lopez Lopez on his birth certificate. Because they go by the last name on my passport which is Lopez and then take my husband's last name which is also Lopez. It's a issue I'm having with renap I want to know for those who have had baby's in Guatemala and mom is a citizen how did they get thief maiden name on birth certificate if moms passport has one last name as your married.
