Looking for an immigration lawyer

As I've mentioned in previous Forum posts, my wife and I have a Target date of May of next year to retire and move to Guatemala... Preferably somewhere close to Antigua.

We have been trying to locate a lawyer or advisor someone who can help us through the process of getting a retirement Visa...

I've heard the name Betty Lopez batted around but I also heard she hasn't been heard from since just before Holy Week...

If anyone could point us in the direction of getting contact information for someone who specializes in retirement visas for expats currently living in the United States it would be so greatly appreciated!

Bety Lopez's father was ill, so she was taking some time to be with him. It was unexpected, but he is doing better now.

I would contact her by email, as she is very responsive. She knows English and will respond in English. Her email is betysofice@hotmail.com.

With a target date of next May, it is too early to begin collecting most documents. The Guatemalan government requires submitted documents to be less than 6 months old from their issue date. If you get them now, they will be too old when you get there. It would be better to get them some time next April, as that will give you plenty of time to get here and get settled before beginning the process.

Thank you so very much for the information!

Yes I understand it's way too early for us to start the process in Guatemala or to collect many of the documents that we need.

However I did want to talk to somebody that would explain to me what specifically we needed to do here in the United States before we left.

We will be making a 2-week trip to Antigua in the January / February time frame and I was hoping to meet with someone while we were there. Betty would be the perfect choice if she's available!

Thank you again for all the information everybody..

Just a quick update I was able to finally get in contact with Bety Lopez's office

And they were able to give me all the information I was looking for and even arrange to have their assistance once we finally got to Guatemala...

Additionally once the timing is right and I gather all our documentation I'll be able to scan and submit them to her office for review just to make sure everything is correct before we make the move and are outside of the United States at which point it becomes a whole lot more difficult
