Also looking to retire, arriving in 6 weeks

My wife and I have been researching Roatan for over two years. We are arriving in 6 weeks and will be staying in a VRBO rental just east of Sandy Bay.
We would like to experience as much of the island as we can in the 10 days we will be there.
I have been told that I do not need to rent a car, as the taxes are plentiful and fairly inexpensive. What are your thoughts?
Also...is there absolutely a "must see" list on the island to help convince us that this is 'the place'?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Jeff

Also research the island of Utila. If you want more of a quaint smaller island, no cars, very friendly, safe... check it out. We choose this island over Roatan.
