Anyone living on this island? I'm trying to find out more info about it. Maybe visit there in the fall of this year?

How do you like Utila honestly? I'm coming with my wife in August to get a feel for the island and everything it has (and doesn't have) to offer. Is there any place on Utila we should look at or avoid? Is building a good option? I have thousands of questions but hopefully we can meet and visit with some people that have lived there and would be interested in talking about it over a beer.

I have not yet visited Utila myself. I'm merely seeking much the same info that you are. I may visit in the fall, and see what it's all about. I'd be interested in feedback from your August visit and fact finding. :)

Well, I'm on a fixed income, like many expats. If I visited or stayed for a while, I'd need a small efficiency. A bath, a bed, A/C, and good internet. All at a very reasonable price. I like music and I live snorkeling. I know the snorkeling is pristine there. I also like street food venders. I love the Hispanic festive culture that seems to never dull. So on the surface, it looks like a good place to be. But you being there for 4 years could provide some wonderful insights I'm sure. Thank you.

One more thing. What about health care? I have the VA here in the states. What's it like there. I'm very healthy, on BP meds. I'm really watching my diet and losing weight. Hopefully, if I can drop another 30 lbs, I can get off the BP meds all together.
So I am a single white male, 74 yo, in good health, looking for some fresh scenery near the ocean. I love being by the sea.

Thanks in advance for sharing and caring.

We are considering moving to Utila but have questions regarding living off the grid. We are looking to purchase home either in Pine Point or Holland Beach. Can you share the pros and cons of the island. I hear there is an issue with sand flies. This will be a big change for us so we are just wanting to hear from someone who lives there.
