Things didn't work out for me in Hungary and I'm moving back home shortly! In the last 4 years I bought a ton of stuff that is now for sale CHEAP (practically new stuff 1/2 price). Includes; pressure washer, battery charger, furniture, pool chemicals, inflatable hut tub with many filters, three person inflatable canoe (used once) beer table with bench(s) electric moped and much, much more. If you need something ask! Thanks!

Why are you moving back to USA? What happened? What made you move back there instead of going to a different country in EU? I am just curious as you seemed so happy here in Hungary!

Wondering why you are moving back? If it is not too personal. I am going the 'opposite' direction...within 16 mos. I will be going back to where i was born in Pest to retire...in countryside....What happened that you are returning to USA??? Just wondering.

The short answer is that I came here to care for my elderly father that moved back here from New York. Around the time he died I met someone, I bought a house etc. I got tired caring for them and children and well romance stopped...so while I have family here I also do in the US. It is indeed cheaper to live here (despite the 27% VAT/tax) but please be aware some of the "quality" of services is poorer too. I live near Balaton Lake and the large hospital is about 35-40 minutes by ambulance (partially on back roads). I'm sure my chances of surviving my first "heart attack" is 50-50 compared to the US where the hospital in the worst case scenario is 10-15 minutes max (in my State anyway).

6 or 7 million HUF aye Mickey? Well from what I seen that will gets you a old farmhouse that will need a lot of work and it is in some village young people no longer want to stay in. Now I'm not saying that there are no bargains out there but one must be constantly on the prowl and be ready to bargain and act! Last thing; needless to say if the property is in a really good location the seller will know and the price won't be so cheap! Good luck in the hunt!

I think in Hungary you kind of expect to "negotiate". On most real estate you should offer 10-15% under the asking price and work from there. That of course may not be true if the property was recently reduced or if the seller really doesn't need the money badly. It depends!

That may be true - you would have a 50-50 chance to survive but be saddled with a bill that will stress you to death. 50-50 You could have gone back and rented rather than burn your bridges and make part of the year there, part here until you are certain of what is the right decision.
