Hungarian hierarchy is taking advantage of the fools that own and drive a car so they happily tax fuel weathever is going down or up! SO! My advise to you all expats is to make maximum use of public transportation that is still cheaper than owning a car in Hungary! Of course those that are on TOP get driven around in government owned cars and they don't have to pay for the fuel so HURRAY for the SMART ONES! They likely get a discount on their "personal fuel" just like we used to get coupons for fuel as US Embassy employees (or similar) in thew 1990's! So take the tram, bus or train and forget driving!!!

"Drunken idiot!" LOL! In my experience the "loyal" supporters are between 50 and 100 years of age. Younger people tend to question more things and know how things could be as opposed to how it is! I know transportation is not cheap unless you purchase a monthly pass and you live in a larger metropolitan area. However as expensive gasoline/diesel is plus toll fees (a yearly pass is about $180.00 plus maintenance it is not cheap although I like the freedom of having on demand door-to-door transportation!

I just think liberal voters are idiots. The price of everything is always going up - you can't be so young that you don't know that already.
Public transportation is the way to go no matter what is your status. The coverage of the city is awesome, the frequency is far superior to that of the USA, more than likely you are on rail and won't be stuck in traffic and last but not least - no problem with parking.
I never run for a public vehicle - another one will be along in minutes - too crowded? wait for the next one. Well worth the price of the monthly pass to travel without having to worry about getting up early to scrape your windows.

By the numbers: I live in Gyor and am faced with drive/train question quite often. I am a public employee, so I get a 50% ticket discount. I can take InterCity/RailJet for about 1200-1500 FT one-way, so 3000 FT round trip. With my Kia C'eed, It's about 14 liters of gas, round trip = 4600 FT. With parking in Bp the way it is, it's a no- brainer for the extra 300 FT metro ride from Kelenfold and 300 FT back . So it's faster, easier, cheaper. Breakover is when there are three of us. Four of us, then we drive. In Gyor, bicycle is my favorite, no more than 15 min from anything and I can use the exercise. Bus is fine, even a free one to get around the city.

Can't understand why you would want to drive anyway. I've never enjoyed public transport as much. DC was a b@tch to get out of after 'rush hour' to Virginia. A bus every hour? Thanks.
Here I never run for a bus or tram, if it is too full I wait for the next one or the third. There is no reason to get into the insanity of driving - and THEN! find and pay for parking.
BKK is my friend.

Indeed! So enjoy the 1 euro ride (cheap depending where you from) but if you use it a lot a weekly or monthly pass is your best bet! BUT watch out on crowded buses and trams. There are Romanian gypsies ready to pick your pocket or purse. They work in teams of two or three. Trust me I know, I was a cop and also a victim. Last minute I realized and caught one of the two but unfortunately the other one had it. They arrested the piece of s*it but next day the twenty something prosecutor let him go due to "lack of evidence"! So enjoy the crowds, the sweat and no AC in the summer. It is the poor man's transportation!!! LOL!

Oh...You're being a cop explains a lot! You think cause you were a cop, you are king of everything and that your word goes! Well, buddy, in a free country, everyone has a right to refute your ideas...don't post on the Forum if you don't want feedback!
