Moving to Ireland to work - advice/help needed.

Hello.

Hoping that I have come to the right place to get a bit of help.

Just before Christmas I was offered a job in Ireland and they want me to start at the beginning of February. (I am a UK citizen and have lived in the UK my entire life).

I have been avidly researching moving to Ireland and it is all very daunting, mainly because my timescale is so short. Some of the information I have read is not that clear and I am a little confused. Also, I cannot seem to find advice which suits my particular situation. Hence my coming on here for advice.

I will be moving over with my partner (and dog) and taking two vehicles. Initially we will be renting, but if all goes ok, we would look to buy a property. My partner owns a house in the uk and we may keep this as a base and possibly rent it out.

The job has a 6 month probationary period, so we don't want to do anything 'too' permanent until we know it's all going to work out. We would therefore need to be able to come back to the UK with ease if it all goes pear shaped.

We are not sure whether we need to register our vehicles. Not sure if I would be classed as a temporary resident if I was working there in a job that was potentially long term. Also not sure what to do about insurance, road tax and driving licence. We need to be able to use both vehicles in the UK and Ireland.

We know about VRT and would be exempt from that, but don't know if we still need to register and get a vehicle check.

With regard to finding somewhere to live, would it be better to rent a holiday let and then find a furnished let once we are there? (My job is based in Limerick).

As soon as we are sure that everything is going to work out (at least for a couple of years and once the probation period has passed), then we would do all that we need to do to become residents of Ireland.

We are just not sure how we go about doing things on a temporary basis. We just want to make sure we are complying with any necessary legislation (in both countries!)

We would be grateful for ANY advice/help about moving to Ireland to work.

With many thanks.
