Banking for aussies

I have recently moved to Dublin and will be working here for 6 months, Need a local bank account to deposit my pay and also allow me to direct debit and access funds readily for mobile phone sim, gym membership etc. Eventually next year will want to move all residual funds back home to Australian bank. Suggestions please on best bank and best type of account to open to minimize bank and transfer fees. TIA

Hello, I probably won't be very useful in answering your question. We spent 16 months in the South West of Ireland (relocated from Oz) and opened a Bank of Ireland account. Just a normal one. Don't expect any interest on any savings. To transfer funds to and from Oz we used Ozforex which gave a much better exchange rate than using banks in Oz or Ireland. People advise to use Oz Debit Card to access funds from Oz (we didn't, we transferred money via Ozforex when we needed funds). Being located in the South West we did not have the same access to different banks; you will be much better served in Dublin. Enjoy your time in Ireland.
