Hello all!
62 yr woman wanting to relocate to Galway from America. Not yet ready to retire so would want to continue to work, hopefully in psychiatry in-patient as a recreation therapist. Given the current world health crisis, i assume relocation is now next to impossible? Any advice, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Celticgypsy

Hi! Are you an Irish or EU citizen or are you eligible for citizenship
( parent or grandparent born in IE). If not, recreational therapists are not on the critical skills lists if you are non- Irish or non-EU.

If you would like to retire there...(and are not a citizen), you need to prove you have 50,000€ for annual income, money to cover housing ( at least 168,000 €, money in case of major expenses, and show proof of Irish private health insurance. This all needs to be documented by an Irish accountant.
Right now there is high unemployment due to Covid19.
If you have read any of the Irish papers, etc..Americans are not really welcomed at the moment due to the number of cases of the virus we have unfortunately

Thanks for the response, Deb!
No, I am not eligible for citizenship. Three 2nd great grand parents born in Ireland and emigrated to the US, but grandparents born in Pennsylvania. And not looking to retire yet. Want to join the work force. Is it still necessary to have proof of substantial savings? I will definitely familiarize myself with the critical skills list. I guess long gone are the days where someone with good intentions can come over with enough money to tide themselves over while looking for housing and employment.

Hi again!

Unfortunately, the income requirements I mentioned are required. When we lived in Kerry, I knew of a woman who had lived there, had a home, she was told to leave in 7 days because she didn’t meet requirements.
There are so many people from all over the world wanting to move there. Are you on FB? There are a couple sites if you are...that might help. Let me know and I’ll get them to you.
Www.dbei.ie will have the critical
list.

Hi, Have a look at the numerous threads in the Ireland forum re just what you're asking.

To clarify, the issue at the moment with Americans has to do with American tourists coming here on holidays and not self-isolating the "recommended 14 days"; sadly there isn't any enforcement. This goes for UK tourists as well as they are still coming over in droves on the ferry. The Irish government is slow to close the island (with a best practice of coordinating with Northern Ireland). Ironically, someone can fly from Dallas, TX to Dublin, but they can't fly to Boston, MA. Pure madness.
Re moving to Ireland without EU citizenship, or VERY wealthy, you have your work cut out for you.
