Help, dear people...we just got 2 bills from the ICA?? one for me and one for my husband. Now I know IMU and ICI are property taxes does anyone know ICA? Imposte Communale Affini...so should I go to the Comune or to another entity. We have been residents for 5 years and this is the first I've seen from ICA. Any info is much appreciated. Thank you...

Hi codybrandy,
OK, I just did a very quick google search and found this site:
https://www.icatributi.it/
They have the name you put in the post.

The company has the letters "s.r.l." after it's name, which, I THINK, means "corporation" or similar. The short bio of the company says it does tax and legal services (for a cost, I'm sure).

So my very first impression is that you received a "mailer" seeking tax and business customers. However, I am the last person to think I know everything, mainly because I don't know everything (and am glad of it!!!). So best to check.

There's an address and phone on the site, so my advice is to call them and ask to speak with a person who speaks American (I no longer call it "English", because it ain't!).

Once again, I may be very wrong. I always advised my clients to immediately open ANYTHING coming from the govt OR ANY LAWYER and immediately respond. That advice still holds, and will serve you well.

My other advice is to not get worked up until you really need to get worked up. Just call and ask who they are, what they want, and why they want it from you. Make sure you understand everything they are trying to tell you. Don't stop asking questions until you truly have no more questions to ask. Apologize for asking so many questions, if you feel the need, but never stop asking until you are done, done, done. Remember, their job is to answer questions, so ask away.

And, if this turns out to be some sort of scare tactic, you might consider reporting it to whoever will listen.

Also, please post the outcome; we are all curious. None of us want to be where you now are.

Cheers, and good luck, John.

PS: before posting this, I went back for a second look at this site. Here's a list of the services offered:

THE SERVICES OFFERED
ICP Municipal Tax Advertising / Fee Installation Media Advertising and DPA Public Rights Billposting
TOSAP Tax / Employment Fee Space and Public Areas
TARSU Urban Solid Waste Disposal Fee
TIA Environmental Hygiene Fee
Paid parking areas management
Compulsory collection of municipal revenue
Contravention Management - Supervising
IMU Municipal Tax Unique
Other services
The procedures provide the most up-to-date technical, IT, printing and mailing methods aimed at ascertaining, checking, collecting, reporting and filing tax receipts with cross-checking of the available databases.

Training manuals for forced collection area

Seems like they contract with the local govt as a collection service. Forgot to pay a ticket lately? Maybe parked with paying? I see they also do something with IMU, which you mentioned. Plus "compulsory collection of municipal revenue". Just call and ask. I hope the bills are not too much, but also note that if it is car-related and you are both on title, then you are both liable, but it may be for the same incident or infraction, which would cost only one bill, not one for each of you. Anyway, just call and ask.

Cheers again, John.
