Moneglia?

Hi can anyone share their impression of Moneglia, Liguria? We have an opportunity to rent a very nice apartment in Moneglia but have only passed through on the outskirts. Was hoping some members may have spent some time there and can share their thoughts, including impression of the neighboring towns. I know it is small, about 3000 inhabitants.

Stayed there in a hotel once on a summer trip with a preschool aged child. Cute little town, big enough to walk around and wander but small enough to walk everywhere. Took the train to Cinque Terre that trip. Conventioned beach scene. One place I'd go back to if we were in the neighborhood and needed a beach break.

I live rather inland from Moneglia but know it fairly well. It is nestled between Deiva Marina (south) and Sestri Levante (north). Unlike farther south of Deiva the beach is sandy and long...quite nice and of course crowded in summer. It's right on the train line so that is handy and not far at all from the Autostrada. Sestri will be your bigger shopping town. Just to the north are the hospitals: Lavagna for emergency, Chiavari and Rapallo for serious needs...all are quite impressive and Rapallo's is brand new. Because these towns are a bit touristy you will have the advantage of some of the best restaurants in the area...some 'hole-in-the walls' which are outstanding and inexpensive...just have to find them. Chiavari has a famous antiques show the (?) 2nd wkend of the month..and all have good market days...Rapallo I think is Thurs. and Chiavari Weds....have to re-check on those. All in all Moneglia is wonderful. our weather this winter has been mild and being away from the 5Terre is not a bad thing yet easy to reach by quick train ride. Now I don't know how far inland from the coast you will be, but my cousin lives in Framura (2 towns south) and does not own a car...she can do everything by train and there is a grocer in Deiva who will deliver once a week
if needs be. I suggest a car because inland is quite spectacular in it's own right and you can discover all sorts of adventures. Certainly can be done without a car though. Good Luck
