Abruzzo/Molise Expat Communities

Hello everyone. I am an American in the process of obtaining Italian dual citizenship via my Grandmother (born 1901 near Campobasso). I have a court date (1948 rule case) scheduled for this December, as long as the date is not moved again due to the pandemic.

I plan to retire in about 3-4 years so I have been gathering information regarding what it would take to possibly move to Pescara or nearby. I’ve visited that area several times and really like it. Is anyone aware of expat communities in that area?

My Father’s family was originally from Molise and I plan to visit that area for the first time once the pandemic subsides for Americans to travel to Europe again.

My Mother’s family was originally from Calabria. I have not visited that region of Italy yet as I hear it can be unsafe, but am hoping to hear feedback from anyone whom has travelled there.

Also, any feedback regarding Pescara, or the region of Molise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Americans are sort of scattered about, but you can't swing a cat without hitting a Brit.

Hello Dgraziano528,
I'm also hoping to get dual citizenship through the 1948 rule - my mother was 4 when her mother became a naturalized citizen. I was told that my chances of success in an Italian judicial proceeding are 75-80%, not 100% since my mother was under 21 at the time my grandmother naturalized.

Sorry I don't have any feedback on Pescara or Molise - my family is from Campania. Would you mind sharing your experience with applying in the Italian courts & how long that has taken? Do you have a recommendation on a citizenship lawyer? Thank you!

If you are on Facebook, there is an extremely active Abruzzo Expat Community group. It's multinational but has a decent number of Americans in it. You can get tons of information there. They are great cheerleaders for that part of the country.
