Hello, Does anyone have an experience of booking an appointment online for Elective Visa at Los Angeles consulate? I have registered on their website at @Prenotami but there is no option there to make an appointment. Could you help please? Thank you.

Because of Covid there is now a 3 year wait time. Best to move to Italy and expedite everything from there.

I know Prenotami well. You just have to keep trying. Best time 3:00 PM on Wednesdays when the Italian Gov server updates appointment availability. Not 3:01. This is a race to grab an appointment.

Yes, faster from Italy if you can stay for a few months.

If and when you move to Italy I think you will find doing most anything online is not a given. Whether the Italian bureaucracy just doesn't believe in the 'magic' of computers or maybe they feel it would take jobs away from real live people...I have no idea. But, I would suggest you phone for the appointment...they may or not pick up. Go to the consulate and they may be a bit peeved you just showed up but you just might get something accomplished. Big Catch 22. When we renew our Permesso it is hours and hours standing in line outside...in the rain etc. when it could be so easily done online. Now this may just be our area but yes, I've noticed we are dealing with a c. 1990 computer age. Banks? Same thing...thank heavens I can access my account online but go into the branch and ask a question and it might take 2 days for them to come up with an answer. In summation: visit in person.

2cartalkers: You can't just move to Italy. You can only stay 3 months under the Schengen Rules and there are penalties if you overstay your welcome. As far as I know you cannot apply for the first 1 year Visa in Italy...it has to be at your home consulate and there is no guarantee you will be accepted.

Also, there are companies that provide services to expedite the process if you want to do it in Italy however I found them to be expensive and didn't go that route. Good luck.

Also live in LA here. We are using a company called Italian Citizenship Assistance to help us through the process, they made the appointment at the LA Consulate for us (they did use Prenotami, but I get the impression they have better access). We've found the process has gone much smoother since we started working with them.

Be careful with the advice you get on a forum. Verify everything with the authorities. I am no attorney, but I understand that you cannot apply for the Elective Residency visa from Italy. You must be in the United States and must apply through the consulate that serves your region. The consulate in our region has stopped accepting appointments and is not taking applications by mail. Check with your consulate to see if they have any alternatives. Definitely do not go to Italy and stay beyond 90 days in a 180 day period. Overstaying your time can hurt your ability to obtain the desired visa.

My understanding is you can’t apply from Italy, at least for elective residence visa, must be done from your area embassy in the states.
