Good Day

I was hoping i could get some expat advise:

1. Could you guys recommend any areas in kingston where the majority of expats reside?

2. Are there any monthly vehicles for hire from Avis? i thought i would hire vehicle for long term, depending on the costs. also is car insurance expensive?

3. What are the activities family normally partake during weekend etc?

I've researches every website, just looking for some free tips.

Thank You

Hello, I just recently moved to Kingston and I'd love to connect when you make the move.

I'm not sure where most expats live. I found a place that I really like in Red Hills.

Regarding cars for hire, many Jamaicans have a little car rental business. In fact I'm thinking of starting one myself. If you do need a car I have a contact I could connect you with.

Feel free to message me with any additional questions. Good luck with your move!

Hi,

There’s a lot of expats in the Cherry Hills / Barbican area to the extent that even the supermarkets carry a wider range of products to satisfy the expat community.

Regarding cars, when I arrived everyone told me my only option was to purchase a car. Turns out all companies (Budget, Avis & Island Car Rental) all offer long term rentals at about a 45% discount to the weekly rate, although I found even that's negotiable. Insurance is what hurts the most as almost half my rental cost is insurance. I asked around and they will waive the fee if your credit card includes hire car insurance, however my didn’t so I’m stuck paying the additional cost.
