Hello expats,
Has anyone heard of Australian College of Kuwait, they appear to be based in West Mishref. Where is West Mishref and is it an ok province?

Also, I am looking at moving to Kuwait and have three kids and marvelous wife. How much total will it cost us to live if we spend moderately?

Looking forward to hearing from someone soon,
Michael

Hi there

You can drive across Kuwait in two hours, hence West Mishref is not a province, it is a suburb of Kuwait City. It is a very nice suburb.

The campus is of the University is new and modern. There is a nice supermarket and a clinic nearby. It is close to the main highways, and their are schools for your kids in nearby Salwa. There are aso two parks closeby and a very nice walking/cycling track.

Accomodation in the area is in the form of Villas (think KD1300 per month up). There are also floors of villas available from about KD450 upwards. Mishref is close to Salwa where there are plenty apartments from around KD400 for a nice three bedroomed place.

You can email me at scockroft@hotmail if you have any other queries.

PS. Schooling for your kids will be expensive. Expect to pay R2000 per kid, per year. Other than that, there are no major expenses aside from groceries (KD150 - 250 per month), and a car, from KD 120 a month. If you want to join a beach club (essential if you don't have a pool), expect to pay around KD650 a year for a family)

Obviously, it is possible to live on far less that this, but I am assuming you want to maintain a certain lifestyle for your family.

Hi Michael,
We've just been through the excercise of comparing cost of living between Sydney and Kuwait. Spent about a week looking at villas and apartments and trawling the supermarkets etc.
In the end we found the cost of living fairly comparable, however housing is very expensive about double that of Sydney to live in comparable accomodation.
Mishref is one of the better areas from what we could gather from our visit.

Cheers - Andreas

Hi,I'm British and have lived in Kuwait for 9 years. After1 year in the UK I'm now counting the days until I can return to Kuwait with my four kids. You can have a high standard of life there and really, usually, much more time for leisure than in the UK. My husband is at Kuwait University, but I'm actuallly thinking of enrolling my nearly 17 year old son at the ACK as they have some excellent engineering courses.

If you need any further info about Kuwait you're welcome to contact me.

Hello Mandalay,

I'm also contemplating a job offer from Kuwait University. You mentioned that your hubby works at KU. Can you or him please give me some idea about working in KU and what's the salary structure like? I teach in a professional program at a US School. How much can i negotiate a salary at an Associate Professor level?
Please advice!
Thanks!

Dear Mandaley:

I am a professor who is considering to move to Kuwait. Do you have some info regarding salary scale and benefits? Also some info regarding 3-4 bedroom housing and schools would be highly appreciated.

ACK is the worst college in Kuwait! Think twice about accepting a position! The management treats professionals as slave labor. They respect no one. They are unprofessional. Beware! Beware! Beware!

Contact: certifiedhacker4real at GMAIL dot COM for help out with any of the above listed services. He provided me with facts to prove against my cheating partner which was helpful for me.
