If you’re a US expat retiree, we encourage you to send us any constructive feedback about the information and services provided by the US State Department to expat retirees. If you have suggestions for additional services and/or information that you would like them to provide to retirees, please include those ideas as well. We have the opportunity to discuss these types of services with the State Department and would like as much feedback as possible. Our time is limited so please forward your thoughts before 12N eastern time tomorrow to connect@expatexchange.com. Thanks in advance for your contributions!

I have a friend that was refused ss benefits because she was living in Kyrgyzstan. I am getting ready to retire and I am wondering if the US embassy can help US citizens get their Social Security payment while in Kyrgyzstan. I am married to a Kyrgyz national.?

If you are retired you must register with the embassy in Bishkek in order to receive your Social Security while living here. You must also show up in person every 3 months with your passport in order to continue receiving your social security payments. The embassy here is your local Social Security office. If you are about to apply to start receiving your social security the easiest way is to apply online but the must still fill out all the appropriate paperwork at the US embassy in Bishkek. All your paperwork will then be sent to the main office in Athens Greece where they will contact you for a phone interview. Then you must show up every three months in person and fill out a form proving you are still alive. This is the correct way to receive your Social Security while living in Kyrgyzstan.
