Parents be aware, the school has moved to new premises and it is now even worse than it was before! The primary and secondary schools are now located in the same building, 19Km away from the school's original location and 6Km out of Malacca town. The secondary 'Principal' is a female from Scotland, whose total arrogance and authoritarian attitude is equalled only by her apparent stupidity. She has no previous experience as a school principal and she has absolutely no idea of how to deal with kids. There are very few facilities available in the school and the standard of education has decreased significantly. School fees are overpriced and no satisfactory interface exists between parents, principals and teachers. To the best of my knowledge, all the parents of european / american students (including myself) have now removed their children from the school. The majority of the students are local children plus a very few children from Korea and India. The school cannot therefore claim to be truly 'international'. Beware! This school is total mess.

Agreed. It's a stupid, stupid school administered by very cynical people.

Hi, and thanks for the information. I realize that I am responding to a very old post, but just in case someone is still reading... It looks like MES does not have a great reputation. Are there good alternatives in Melaka for expat high school age kids, with US, UK, or IB curriculum ? Thanks!

Hi, Their are not many expats resident in Malacca these days and most of the children attending MES are locals whose parents can afford the fees. So I'm afraid there is not a good expat high school in Malacca. If you were looking for an expat primary school then MES would be the best option, but even then it's well overpriced in terms of the facilities and services it offers. In fact I would go as far as to say that you will find it very difficult to find a good expat high school anwhere in Malaysia, including KL. Sorry about that but that is my belief based on 20 years+ experience of the country.

Thanks for the information! MES and Melaka International School seemed like they could be options, so I appreciate your experienced advice. My wife is from Melaka, and I have spent a couple months there over the years. I can work pretty much anywhere with Internet, so we have been thinking about moving (back) there. But our youngest just started high school, so probably best to wait till she finishes. Thanks again!

We have had experiences with expat schools in Latin America, now in Malaysia. Our perspective is that the international experiences of our children, and now our grand children offer significant education outside of the classrooms (however adequate or inadequate they seem to be). But, knowingly exposing them to incompetence is not a plan-for-life that they should have to bear! As a side note, the Dalat International School in Penang, Malaysia does offer a positive, and "quality" education experience for all grade levels. All hope for quality education for expats is not lost!

Hi Babasteve. Thanks for the reply and the insight. Great points! I have looked for international work opportunities over the years for those reasons, but they never seemed to make financial sense. We have family reasons to be in Melaka, and the cost of living is low enough that I could get by with freelancing, so it would be feasible if we could find the right school. I did enjoy my brief visit to Penang many years ago, but there is not as much reason for us to be there. Thanks again!
