Moving to Monterrey!

Hello - I am new to the site and I am looking for some insight. My husband and I along with our 8 month old son will be moving to Monterrey, for his job. We currently live in Texas and I grew up in Chicago most of my life. Can anyone shed some light on what to expect on living in Monterrey? Places to live, safety, not speaking tons of spanish yet, etc. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks tons!

You will love Monterrey. Try to find a place in San Pedro area (colonia del Valle). The view of the Sierra Madre is wonderful.
The regios like Americans a lot, and you will get a long easily while you are improving your Spanish.
Explore the Cola de Caballo Waterfull, the Garcia Caves, the bioparque estrella (a wonderful zoo), La Huasteca, they make wonderful daytrips.
Monterrey is a very safe city. I lived there from 1998 to 2002 and I enjoyed a lot.

Thank you so much for your response. I am happy hear that you enjoyed living there. We are very excited! We have also been told by friends to look for housing in the San Pedro area. I can't wait to get there and experience all Monterrey has to offer.

Hi mhad71,

I'm not sure if you have already arrived in Monterrey yet, but if not, please be reassured! It's a modern, vibrant city, with great facilities and lovely residential areas. Crime is not a major problem (although you would take the same precautions as in any major city) and there is a large US ex-pat community here.

My company, Integra Relocation Solutions, offers relocation packages for people moving to Monterrey. We can help with everything from finding a house, a school, learning Spanish, learning to drive, immigration queries etc. We also run an induction to the city, which includes our guide book to living in Monterrey (the most comprehensive one of its kind) , a tour of the city's key areas and a trip to the supermarket.

Check out our website to see if there's anything we can help with (www.integra-mty.com) or email me at [email protected]

Good luck!

I found Monterrey to be oppressively hot. Hotter than Texas! The Mexican interior on the Pacific side has an ideal climate. If you're acclimated to Texas weather, Monterrey might not be so bad but I also lived in Texas and could not tolerate Monterrey.
