my husband and i are seriuosly looking into moving to mexico. i am 35 and he is 32. we are planning on doing this within the next 3 years, along with my parents once they retire. i am hoping to find any expats also around our age with helpful tips and advise on anything you might think of including seeking work (part time) in mexico. we do not speak spanish.....yet, but will be taking lessons in the new year. we plan to buy a house seperate from my parents instead of rent....but other then that it is wide open. any tips would be helpful.
thanks,
shelley

Cantomex,

I love your title "moving ... not retiring." It's a big difference, isn't it?

You can have a great time in Mexico, but you will need to be prepared for some major differences between the U.S. (Canada, too) and Mexico.

I was in a similar position, too. We were moving to Mexico in our late twenties and we were going to rent. It was hard to find good information... so I made my own web site after I had a couple of years of experience in Mexico under my belt.

You can check out my site and see if it would help you at all. It does say "work, live, and retire in Mexico" but the topics focus on the "living there"/"cultural" stuff that you might find helpful.

Also my book focuses on the how-to, nitty-gritty details of the first year there with information such as how to get a telephone, how to furnish your place, etc.

Sincerely,
Julia Taylor author of Mexico: The Trick is Living Here and creator of www.home-sweet-mexico.com
