safety in Mexico

I'm doing an article for AOL Travel website on the safety of travel to Mexico and am trying to get SHORT quotes from people living in the following cities and resorts areas: Los Cabos, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatenejo, Acapulco, Oaxaca.
My deadline is Monday March 29 at 11 a.m. California time. If anyone interested could respond by then, I'd be most grateful!

There is a lot of hysteria in the US about everything from drugs to flu in Mexico, but after 5 years in Oaxaca with my husband and daughter, I have to say that these issues have not even remotely affected us.

We've lived in Mexico since 2001 and remain, feeling safer than in the USA, where the murder rate of Americans is much higher than in Mexico. This is the end of the 'snowbird season' and thousands are driving, as we speak, in Mexico and crossing the border to return to the USA and Canada. Many write of their travels in various blogs and e-mail back to those of us who are full time residents. There are no problems on the roads, at the hotels or at the border; other than the long lines and the generally surly US Customs people. If you aren't in the drug smuggling or arms smuggling business, or aren't looking for drugs or other illegal activity, you have nothing to worry about, except worry itself. Yes, you will see more checkpoints than usual and more military presence in some northern border states.
I am puzzled by the emphasis, by the original poster, on the tourist resort areas. There are many more expats scattered happily throughout this large and beautiful country. I suspect a biased 'spring break' article. Yes, those teens will be at the resorts, seeking sex, drugs and more. Some will die in their wild, drunken escapades. They always do.

Hi, the emphasis on the tourist resort areas was a result of thinking I had Mexico City and Guadalajara covered, but actually I haven't, so I also need anyone who lives in DF or Guadalajara region.
This is an article in response to the latest State Department warning, and it's not geared to spring breakers, but to all tourists to Mexico. I am covering the main tourist destinations, and it's my aim to show they're quite safe.
What better way to show that than to quote someone who actually lives in each spot?
Thanks for your response.

That's good to hear. The US news media seem so anxious to sensationalize the drug wars (caused by US demand & gun/money sources) that it is destroying the tourist industry in many places. Neither tourists nor full time expat residents have much of anything to worry about. Sure, some bad things are happening, but it is between specific cartel competitors and some authorities or the military. Simple common sense, like not driving around at night in strange places or going to 'drug bars' or other trouble spots, will keep you enjoying life. Frankly, we feel much safer in Mexico than in the USA or Europe. Life is good, the new is disturbing and most of it is 'somewhere else' and very late at night.
