Moving by Air Cargo

Has anyone done this?

Specifically, from the USA to Puerto Vallarta airport. I'm thinking about it and can't find anyone who has already done this on any blogs out there......

I haven't seen anybody writing about this either. I suspect that's because it happens very rarely. I have investigated the cost of moving a modest sized load of household goods by truck and it's quite expensive. I imagine shipping a significant amount by air would cost a fortune. But you'll probably have to call some air freight companies near your location to find out for sure.

Gee, mannem, that was helpful!
Ya think I could have figured out on my own to call some Air Freight companies.

I'm looking for someone who has done this or knows someone who has.

Anyone else with information on MOVING by Air Freight?

I believe that the reason no one has provided information about their "personal experience" moving possessions to Mexico via air cargo, is that I doubt anyone other than someone uber-rich would have done so. This is simply not the way it's done because it is not practical.

Working on the ground, with trucks, two well reputed movers many folks coming to Mexico from North of the Borther (NOB) have used are Leo Chow (leochow at live dot com is his email) and Strom White Movers (www dot strommoving dot com is their website).

Maybe someone reading this might have another piece of potentially valuable information: I heard that there was a website where you can ask competing moving companies for a quote, and this included moving services to Mexico. I don't have that website address, but hopefully someone else can point you to it.

Lastly, there are MANY websites tuned to the topic of helping Gringos move to and adapt to living in Mexico. One is www dot RollyBrook dot com. Rolly Brook is a prolific gentleman who maintains a lot of information on this subject online, and has written a book on the subject of moving to Mexico. As I said, many others have also created websites, blogs and books on this subject, too many to "review" here. Personally, I have found Rolly Brook's information to be reliable, and recommend his website as a starting point.

Good luck,

Alex

Good luck,
Alex

Now THIS is what I was looking for, MsAlex. THANK YOU SO MUCH for providing web sites of the movers.

I am not "uber rich" but figured it would cost me at least $1,000 USD to get my stuff down to Puerto Vallarta, and then to the town I am settling in. I am going to visit Alaska Airlines Air Cargo in person at the airport (I live right next door so to speak) and check on their prices. I do plan on using the web sites for the movers by land also, and thanks again for those. I really appreciate it.

As for the rest, I have checked out ALL that I needed to, starting last October, have been to my little town, have my apartment reserved for Feb 2012, a job if I want it, and 2 females that I made friends with online. So, I am all set there.

The only thing left is: how to get my things over the border? I already figured out I would have to fly there first with some of my things in 3 suitcases with cat, fill out an FM3 for permanent residence, and THEN move the stuff down. Once a resident, you are allowed one move hassle-free over the border. So, that's my plan. Regards, C

Another thought... Yahoo or Google groups (forums where members can ask and answer questions) exist for many specific parts of Mexico, for the Gringo communities living here. One such group -- which is a Yahoo group -- is called Puerto_Vallarta_OldTown_SouthSide. Try this web link: (if this message board will allow the link to be posted -- we'll see):
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com /group/Puerto_Vallarta_OldTown_SouthSide/?yguid=389073316 There you will find an entire COMMUNITY of people who have all moved to the Puerta Vallarta region, almost all coming from the North. You may gain some good insights, practical information and maybe even form some friendships, by joining that group.
