You may very well hear from individuals who have had a hip or knee replaced by IMSS or Seguro Popular (public healthcare in Mexico), but I have certainly spoken with a number who have had joint replacements over the years. While one person's experience is not a guarantee that you'll have the same treatment (since that depends a great deal on your level of disability, xrays and the opinions of your attending physicians, etc.) knee replacements are certainly covered and that procedure has been done for many expats. —Monica Rix Paxson, medical researcher and author, https://www.amazon.com/English-Speakers-Guide-Medical-Mexico-ebook/dp/B06XRG93J4/

I brought my mother over after she had a stroke, from England. The IMSS replaced her hip, because she was listed as my dependant. No problems.
