New Topic Newest First

I am looking for an affordable stay for 2 or 3 weeks on a beach in Mexico not in a resort area. What would people suggest for a local flavor beach stay this summer in Mexico that would be affordable and not dangerous? Thanks.

I’d suggest San Carlos, Sonora

Do your own search on Sonora as to the safety. US warnings do not advise travel there. Safety in that region is in gated and secured areas. I suggest the Caribbean areas but there is problems currently in some of those.

I also think San Carlos is a good beach choice for non touristy. On the Sea of Cortez Baja side you also have the town of San Felipe that is a good laid back choice and would be comparable to San Carlos in size, amenities & geography.

Las Peñitas de Jaltembe, and other small towns nearby. Estado de Nayarit.

If you're willing to house sit, at HouseSitMexico.com there currently are available beach stays in FOUR places: Playa del Carmen, Melaque, Sayulita and Progresso. (That's just the listings in beach communities.)

Readers here are offered a 20% discount on a one year membership with coupon ExpatExchange20. The discounted price for a one year membership is $63.20 US. House sitting is definitely a great way to travel Mexico and see where you'd be happiest. :)

At mid-summer it'll be hot at sea level, which is where most of the beaches are -- but not all of them. Try Lake Chapala in Jalisco.
