No Water

We live in Juriquilla, Queretaro. The entire Juriquilla has lost water for 6 days and haven't recovered water yet.

The temperature is rising really high like 35 degrees (or 95 F).

Is it common in Mexico? Has anyone had the same experience in Mexico? Not having water for 6 days is extremely bizarre.

That is why in Mexico most have tinacos and cisterns.

We have a community well which has a rather irregular schedule as to when water will be pumped. AND - if water is scheduled for 8AM in the morning and the power goes out at any time in the night, there will be no water until someone comes to restart the pump. And then there are holidays....

As I said - we are on a community well but in our area - last year for a period of perhaps 3 months there was a war between the power company and the water company. The power company shut off the water company for lack of payment. The water company moved in these huge noisy, smelly diesel generators to pump the water.

When we bought our house we had a tiny little cistern which really was not large enough. Last year we finally built a cistern perhaps 5 times larger. We should be able to go perhaps weeks now without outside sources.

We do have a water tank above the house. But water has run out yesterday. The problem is that the water company didn't communicate with anyone until the state government enforced it.

And you have no cisterns in the ground with a pump to move the water to the roof ?

I'll just add this -

We have numerous filters on our water supply. We have a cheapo Rotoplas filter at the street. We have the same cheapo filter on the entrance to the tinaco at the roof. We have a 5 filter RO systerm under the kitchen sink for our drinking/kitchen water as well as a decent filter for cleaning usages at the kitchen sink.

There was a time when I got really upset with the gardening staff for 'depriving' us of water. Turns out the problem was that I tried to replace the cheapo filter at the street with a higher quality filter. Well - that didn't work so well. That filter was so clogged with dirt that it did not allow ANY water to come into the house etc.

Not sure this is relevant.

Our brother lives in Sonora area.

They were out of water for more than 6 months as the municipality had not paid the electric company for usage. Thus, all municipal water pumps were non-functioning.

Wow! The exact same thing happened in Progresso, Yucatán last year. It seem to be fairly common. At our house we have a cistern and a tinaco, as well as a well to fill the pool and water the garden. We also have pressurization, softening and filtration systems. But the water that comes from the city comes very slowly, and can stop without notice, so we have actually run out of water from the cistern, not knowing that the inflow from Japay had halted. We also frequently have problems with water mains being broken during street work. Alas - it is really not that much worse than problems we often had in Florida, but our situation seems to be far less severe than what some are describing here.

FYI filters are available in different micron sizes. (the size of a particle that can pass thru it) The smaller the micron number the better the filter will stop particles from passing on but will clog the filter sooner as it is doing it's job. You must find the filter that fits your needs. The finer the filter you want/small number, will have to be replaced more often. I am guessing you, Yellowtail, are confusing 'cheapo' with filtering ability, regardless of price or brand.

In the states I re configured a system that I originally purchased from ZeroWater. That way I could use tap water to refill the reservoir. I set this system on a standard water cooler and then could get unlimited hot and cold filtered water without messing with bottled water bottles. I later discovered Berkey Water Filters at a home and garden show and after researching that, switched from Zero Water filters to Berkey Water filters for my modified system. These filters are by far the most capable of water filters and last for literally years when filtering "tap" water! I use them here in Playa del Carmen and have had no issues whatsoever. You can google all this or contact me and I'll send you some photos of the system I created for myself. it works great.
