I have another trip down planned in the next couple of months. I hear good things about Kino Bay/Bahia de Kino. Anyone know this area? One local expat says no cartel issues in the immediate area but he has a house to sell so maybe slanted info. I think it may be in some frontier zone so USplated cars are kind of the norm and TIP not required???? Any advise/information would be helpful. It looks like real estate prices are pretty low even compared to Yucatan on the Gulf prices. It is somewhat desert so an added plus for toys in the sand as well as boating. My weather data shows it cools down well at night even if the days are as warm as the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Warm???? Try horribly hot and humid, especially in the summer, when it gets really lonesome there. You might rather consider a more normal home in Hermosillo, where you can have a normal life, but still visit the beach at Kino, whenever you get the urge. The urge will wane before you know it. There is a reason that you can buy cheaply in Kino, and other such 'converted trailer parks'.

My 'Weatherbase.com" shows it having almost the same high temps with about 10 deg cooler per average for a low compared to the beaches North of Merida.....Chicxulub to Chuburna only with 25 inches of rain vs 3. Shed some light please RV. I get the prices seem low and there are some RV spots I have not seen elsewhere. The sand sports looked interesting. It also looks like the Sea of Cortez is more inviting than the Gulf of Mexico.

While on your trip to the Kino Bay area,, head south to San Carlos, Guaymas. I love it there.

This sounds like one of those situations that calls for personal experience. Personally I have found that no amount of research can convey as much as feet on the ground. I can testify that the Gulf of Mexico beach towns north of Merida get very hot. As early as April, temps can start hitting 100F. Breezes off the Gulf help but most folks can't spend all day on the beach. A scouting trip during summer will speak volumes.

My drive down trip next month will have me entering at Nogales. My contacts there tell me a TIP is not required for that part of Sonora. Does anyone know if I can get a TIP going thru at Nogales just in case I decide to head East towards the Yucatan where I will NEED one. (so I don't get turned back by the policia 200 miles in). I don't want to have to visit the border again just for that. If I had to go back to the border again I would probably stay in the states and travel to McAllen/Reynosa where I know the ropes there from last time. Although the Texas side did steal my tablet going thru a customs search coming back out. Bastards!

You can order your vehicle Importada Temporal online, before your trip, on the Mexican government website, or get it at the Banjercito office at any full service border crossing. In your case, just inquire for directions when you cross at Mariiposa/Nogales.

You can get the TIP at the same place you get your FMM. There is another banjercito office at the South end of the hassle free zone.
