Has anyone used the Phoenix location to start their temporary or permanent residency visa? If so, what was your experience?

I didn’t go there for a visa, but they did do my Menaje de Casa. It was done within hours.

The menaje de casa can only be approved at a consulate. It simplifies the importation (and customs) process considerably if you can show that your list has been approved. (You do need to have model and serial numbers for anything electronic.)

FUNNY
The past 20 = years the numerous times I took trucks loads into the FREE ZONE of Mexico I never had to do this. I just showed my list on the MX Side of the border and if over X amount I had to pay.

My husband and I just used that consulate for our permanent visa, and the process was not difficult. The lady who helped us had good English, and things went smoothly.
But be sure you have all of your documentation when you get there, and you have to have an appointment.

bigfoot - That is a completely unrelated issue. The menaje de casa is for people moving to Mexico who want to do things legally and fairly. Most of us are not in a hurry to live in the border zones.

LaSenoraMeanLady -- thank you for sharing. For the financial piece, I plan to take 6 months of bank statements that reflect my monthly deposit from my investments. I'll be applying for the temporary visa fyi. I know I have read that each consulate tends to do things a bit differently. Do you think the bank statements will be sufficient or is there something else you would recommend I take with me?

YEP just like being kissed while you are asleep is one of the purest forms of love...unless you are in Prison.

Bill,
You were within the free zone, and did not have to pass through secondary inspection points further into Mexico, as would be required for anyone moving into the interior of Mexico.

If you are moving a substantial amount of household goods to Mexico on a Temporale or Permanente visa, you have 6 months from the award of the visa to bring those goods in duty-free, for which you'd need to have an approved Menaje de Casa. The process itself does involve some brokers fees, etc., and in my case I've been advised that because I will be shipping only about a pallet's-worth of goods (with the only electronic item being a 4-5-year-old television), it will be less expensive simply to show up at the border and pay whatever duties are required, than to do a Menaje de Casa.

We applied for a permanent visa, which requires much more financial documentation. You do have to have a passport and other photo ID. You can get a 180 day temporary when you cross the border. If you are crossing at Sonoyta, there is a building on your right where you apply. I think you can renew once, but please verify my information.

Phoenixmom they only care about what your balance is at the end of the statement.

I got turned down for my balance dropping for 3 days. Because at the end of the statement my balance was 600 didnt matter 3 days later the was a deposit cause that was on the following month

I didn't understand the rules so I was making large payments on my credit cards

Now because I'm married to a Mexican the rules for me changed. No more amount needed and after 2 years I can get my perminate

Im still trying to figure out how to become national. It was a huge pain to get my temp while in mexico which was only possible because I'm married to a Mexican
