A friend and myself are going to Oaxaca and enjoy the beach area around Crucecita. We will be looking around for buying a place. We will be traveling around to get used to the area and learning about culture and living styles. I would appreciate all information you may have to what is needed to make the move and retiring in Mexico.

Heya,
yeah, Between Oaxaca city and the coast is a mtn range and on top that mtn is a town called San jose del Pacifico. Reached by colectivo, simple, cheap and easy.

if you like mushrooms(hongos), they grow the best in the world there and also the best mescal i have ever tasted and cheap too.

One hostel is 100 pesos a night, the other is like 30 pesos but no beds,.. you just sorta crash on the chairs and couchs,.. very trippy.

Oaxaca city is great too, very inexpensive, excellent shopping too.
I find the coast on the Pacific side a little too hot and muggy and greedy for my taste.

Folks who take these posts and consider them fact are very naive. These forums are a place to get ideas and then give you a direction to search. Experience and personalities greatly effect the posters views. It is your job to separate the wheat from the chaff.....And boots on the ground is the most important. Keep in mind some of the posters have something to sell or are not admitting the negative because they failed to have an exit strategy and are stuck and don*t want to admit it.

You will do good to buy the Amazon book "Live Large on a Little in Mexico" by Felipe Fernandez. It has everything that you need to know.

QROO.US is neither a blog nor forum such as we utilize here offering up solicited informal opinions and unsubstantiated information that one must corroborate. Be it escalating property taxes, comparative state crime statistics, or current Mexican bank mortgage rates - the data is generally underscored by the government or private sector resource that put it forward.

i.e. a recent post concerned expat requirements to work in Mexico. No general comments but access to download the recent offical government guideline published.

Bigrio, you are entitled to your opinion, but many of the posts at QROO.US are created at the many requests from their followers. While in some cases he does posts links to government or other pages, he also posts experiences, such as when he ended up at the emergency room, when one of his neighbors had surgery, their monthly expenses, when someone tried to scam him at the gas pump, how to save on certain things, how to look for illegal charges when you go to a restaurant, what government agencies can help you when you have a problem with goods, services or your bank, etc., etc. It is there as a place to start if you are seeking general information. I would never blindly follow what somebody tells me in this blog or any other.

NA, forgive me. Hardly have I intended to promote blind faith.

I also enjoy reading Qroo Paul and Linda's site. they give off invaluable info about the area they live in. they give out what kind of expenses they have along with costs of doc visits. they give a few places they enjoy but for the most part it is a site for info. How to do this and how to do that. the process of registering a car to how to look for gas station scams. They give links to who you should report for illegal activity were it from a cantina to a store. A great resource in my opinion.

Sir
I moved to Merida in 2004 and came with my mother and sister. Both she and I bought houses and lived ther until my mother passed. I married in 2006 and returned to the United States for my wife to become a us citizen.
I rented my house to a group of people who claim to own a pepper plantation and was recommended.
Turns out these people were very corrupt conducting illegal operations. The PGR came in 2016 and arrested these people and sealed my house and forbid me from entering.
I retained a local lawyer and we went to Mexico city for me to do a deposition to prove I was not involved with these people. (I offered to do a lie detector test.
After many times the lawyer went to Mexico city to take forms. Wife and I decided to travel to Mexico City to check the status of my house. When arriving at the PGR office and they said I would need a letter from my lawyer and we were turned away. (PGR office in Merida and my lawyer both said I do not need a letter),
We returned to Mexico City on October 15 and was able to talk with the PGR officer and was informed that they gave my house to the Hacienda……Said they tried to reach my lawyer who has 4 phone numbers and no one showed any interest in the house.
I have been paying the Fideicomiso every year and also paying the city taxes.
I feel this is something that happens in a communist country.
I am a Decorated American Vietnam Veteran, Kentucky Colonel, and in good standing. I have a perfect background with not legal problems in the past.
The only thing I can think to do is WARN anyone planning to relocate or visit Mexico be prepared.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Doyle Guy

La hacienda pública is la Secretaría de Hacienda, a federal department. https://www.gob.mx/shcp/que-hacemos. Possibly the states have analogous departments.
