OK, last question for today :)
We're moving from LA to the State of Mexico. Are there any moving companies that will handle the move from end to end? I don't want to have to play the finger pointing game if there is a problem and (for example) Allied says it is Tres Guerras fault and Tres Guerras says it is Allied's fault.
I'd also like to know how much people have paid for a move? I know and have heard all the "you can buy everything you need in Mexico so leave it all behind" arguments but that's not gonna work for me. I also can't buy a trailer and drive it all down myself.
Thanks! Chris

Shipping to Mexico will be a horror story. My friend from Spain had things shipped to Mexico and half his stuff was missing and some never left Spain. There will be no recourse with a claim. You will get the big run around. Depend on that. This same friend purchased a Harley in Mex City and had it freighted over to Sonora. It got delivered to the wrong warehouse and no one had paper work to find it. A month later it showed up at his house and some employee was riding it....Only in Mexico!. I would advise bringing a trailer down like I did or sell and rebuy here. Most don't know what they will need or want here so buying here is usually the best. Keep in mind Mexico has little to no customer service and as a foreigner you will have a target on your back with the shipping companies. A Mexican friend of mine here says his friend pays to work at a freight company because he can make so much money stealing from the freight. Your things will get opened up and claim customs did it.

Chris, there is a guy with a truck and cargo trailer that crosses the border. He is like a private Ryder/Uhaul. Contact him at toyhauler4u (at) gmail (dot) com

Thanks for the lead LTL, but what I'm really looking for is door (LA) to door (Mexico) service by a single company.
Has anyone used any of the major movers like Allied, North American or United to take their stuff down?

Try talking to Strom White, Lake Chapala Movers, and Best Mexico Movers.
They will team up with a USA company to get your stuff to the border and transfer to their own trucks. They will also handle customs for you.

A friend of mine just bought a new hot tub in Tucson and had a single company move it to Sonora. Turns out it got shuffled off twice once it made Mexico. It is 300 miles south of the border to San Carlos and the story is not pretty from there. Everyone blames everyone else and no settlement. Maybe you story will end up happier but not something I would do. And there is nothing to steal from a hot tub like personal belongings.

The problem with door-to-door is that you are mostly on your own with getting the Menaje de Casa. I contacted three international moving companies who promised door-to-door and received three different answers regarding who would be responsible for securing the Menaje de Casa. Be sure, whomever you contract with that you fix the responsibility of who will be responsible for the document. This might be one of the reasons that folks say get rid of it all and buy in Mexico! https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/boston/index.php/consular-services/64-household-goods

The only way to ensure your stuff doesn't get handed off is to do it yourself. Next is to use someone like the toyhauler that comes to you and takes your things directly to your destination with no middle men.

Check the Moving to Mexico Guy’s website. He moved me from Tempe, AZ to Mazatlán, Sin. He will take care of your Menaje de Casa. None of my items were damaged when they arrived, but I did the packing. He is not cheap; I have known Robert, the Moving to Mexico Guy, for almost 45 years and would recommend him.
