Does anyone have any experience with the moving company "Best Mexico Movers"?

I contacted him for a quote a couple weeks back. I just needed a ballpark estimate, for moving my stuff, which would probably fit in a 10'x10' storage locker. He was a bit reluctant to spitball a number, but eventually he said it coult be as little as $5,000 IF I could deliver my stuff to Laredo (I live in San Antonio). So, even though he has a method to cut as much cost as possible, it is still pretty expensive. I decided I'm just going to sell everything I can take down myself in a minivan.

For my situation his price is pretty good but does not include packing or loading. He basically arranges for a trailer to show up at my house in the USA and then be driven to the new house in Mexico.
My concern is that I can't find any independent reviews to even establish that he does what he says he does and we are reluctant to turn our possessions over to an unknown.
Has anyone else had any dealings with "Best Mexico Movers"?

I have no experience with Best Mexico Movers, but I used The Moving to Mexico Guy. He moved my stuff from Tempe, AZ to Mazatlan, Mexico. Everything got to me in good condition. A couple of boxes were opened by Customs at the border, but there was nothing missing. This guy is a little more expensive, and even though he does not pack for you, he may be able to recommend somebody at your location. I have known him for over 40 years, and he has been doing this for many, many years. His customers highly recommend him.

I forgot to say that you may want to do the packing yourself because you have to create a Menaje de Casa to be able to take your stuff across the border without paying any tax. That means that you have to list what is in every box; I wouldn’t trust that to anybody. All electric and electronic stuff must be listed with brand, model, and serial number, and it must be in Spanish. The Moving to Mexico Guy will help you translate the list into Spanish if you can’t do it yourself.

a friend just had two shipment come to San Carlos, Sonora. One came from Mexico City and one from Europe. The one from Mexico City was a Harley and they built a crate to put it in but did not tie it down. It was just on the kickstand. You can image how it arrived. It was scratched and dented and some parts missing. It arrived here Estefeta . I don't know if it started in Mex City with them or not for sure. He said it got handed off somewhere along the line. I don't know which company he used from Europe but their performance was horrible. Boxes open and things stolen. The service could not even tell him where the shipment was at anytime during the process. He would NEVER use anyone again. Sell and rebuy on this end is his choice now....Locally here, I am told, the employees pay to work at the shipping business because of all the stuff they can steal...True or not I don't know but I doubt you will have a great experience. In my opinion. I hauled my own stuff down in a trailer and would again.

The Moving to Mexico Guy travels with the shipment. He does not hand it off to anybody else.

It will not go off without a hitch. That I can promise you. One thing I have learned about Mexico is things are not as they seem. The damnedest things will happen and no where to get them resolved. Prepare yourself for that. I am not Mr. Doom and Gloom, just my experience.

I contacted Best Mexico Movers a few months ago to move me from Michigan to Mexico. He reluctantly gave me a quote, which seemed reasonable, until I started asking questions. 1. I had to pay for his gas to drive the truck to my location in Michigan -- not included in the quote, 2. I had to pay for his housing on the road to get my location in Michigan AND while he was in Michigan -- not included in the quote. 3. I had to pay for his housing AND meals during his drive to Mexico -- not included in the quote. 4. Packing and loading not included in the quote. Bottom line, another gringo taking advantage of other gringos wanting to move to Mexico.

Eidel, so if Best Mexico Movers included all those so called "extra costs" in the quote would you be happier? If you hired Allied Movers do you think it would cost less?
It is very expensive to maintain a truck, pay for gasoline, go down the road. Nobody is taken advantage of gringos.
Or after a lifetime of accumulating stuff you realize that you all you collected is worthless junk?

Thanks Eidel, none of those extras were mentioned in my talks with Chuck at BMM. He did quote airfare and hotel for a "move advisor" to be present during packing. That's an optional service and since it was in writing up front it didn't bother me. Are/were you in the UP or some other remote area? Maybe that is the reason for all the extra expenses?
In any case, it seems that after adding in the costs of packing and loading that are included in quotes from a company like Allied that Best Mexico Movers is still competitive. My issue with them remains that I can't find any 3rd party reviews on the company and he won't give me references "until we have agreed on everything". All things being equal I'll go with a company that has a track record and doesn't turn me into a general contractor who has to contract and coordinate packing, loading, unloading, unpacking, etc.
