Hi, is anyone driving to PV from Texas in the next couple of months? (September, October 2020). We are looking into driving with a trailer to PV but feel uneasy traveling alone.

I hope you find someone to convoy with so you'll feel more at ease,

Wanted to share that we just made the drive you are contemplating this month entering Mexico August 3, using the Laredo Columbia Solidarity International Bridge (NOT downtown crossing - look up drive on google) as had been recommended by many on other Facebook groups. It was an excellent choice. Easy. Our TIP took about 40 mins in line and we were on our way. Crossed at 08:30am.

We also only took the Toll-Roads via Mataehuala - Monterrey/ México 57 and overnighted in Matehuala at the Las Palmas Hotel about halfway. Nice, safe and very affordable with a good restaurant. The Toll Roads were excellent, the gas stations clean and plentiful, the scenery was beautiful and we felt more comfortable (though always aware of our surroundings) once we got away from the border.

Tolls totaled less than $100 USD (paid in pesos) but with a trailer you'll pay a bit more. Don't go if you don't feel safe it's too ling of a drive to carry that anxiety, but make sure if you do find someone to travel with they have a very reliable vehicle too or you will become tied to their problems.

Good luck.

Whether you're moving to Panama City or Punta del Este, this article is a must read to help you prepare (hint: you'll be much happier if you learn the language) and adjust your expectations (realities: the roads are rough, the pace of life is slower and bureaucracy is unavoidable). Despite all of the challenges, the list of what expats like about life in Latin America far exceeds the challenges.
