Moving to Patzcuero

My wife and I are looking at moving to Patzcuero. I visited there last year and loved it.

I'm trying to find rentals on line and am not finding anything. Is there a good place to look or is it better to just go there and find a place.

Also, during this covid thing...what was it like in Patzcuero. Any restrictions? If so what.

Hi, there is a groups.io group (https://groups.io/g/MichoacanNet/messages ) and several Facebook groups for Morelia - they cover Patzcuaro.

You will likely get more help in those places. Liz

I lived in Patzcuaro for a year and loved it. Friends of mine have this website, and I suggest you reach them to ask about rentals: liveinPatzcuaro.com.

As thoroughly charming as Patzcuaro is, three things may be "push-backs" for some people: 1) The ALTITUDE is above 7,000 feet. This can be an issue if you have -- or if you at a future point develop -- breathing issues; 2) Because of the high altitude it gets colder than you may think. (Google to see year round temperature records.). With rare exception, homes do not have any kind of heating system other than a fireplace, and winters can be raw.
Push-back #3: The medical care available locally is humble, and the care in Morelia (40 minutes away) is less than acceptable (in my experience and in my humble opinion).

It was push-back #3 that ultimately made us leave Patzcuaro.

Mexico is a super fantastic country to grow old in, and the medical care available in cities like Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and PV is seriously world-class and affordable. You may be healthy now, but if you are planning to grow old in Mexico, I suggest you pick an area where you will have fast access to the level of care you want to have.
