Hello,
I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. I just got my temp visa and spent April in Mexico City. I am in the states every other month for work and will be in Puerto Morales the month on June. I have sold all my properties in the states and will permanently retire in August full time to MX.. Does anyone know how to retain your US drivers license when you don’t have a physical address in the US?

Is there a good forum for Cancun to Playa Del Carmen? I could use a recommendation for a good dentist in the area.

There are tons of dentists in the Cancun/PDC area. Some make a specialty of doing major operations for people coming down from the states for cheaper dental work (like full mouth implants). Probably not what you want.

At first I got a recommendation from my housekeeper, but the place was inconvenient to get to and they spoke no english, which was mainly a hassle when it came to try to make an appointment. I'd have to go there to make the appointment, then go there again to keep it.

So I picked another likely looking place in Cancun across from Walmart and walked in and they've been fine. I never make an appointment, I walk in and they always have availability to give me a cleaning with a short wait. They've got a fancier, nicer office, and charge more, about US$45 for a cleaning instead of $25 at the other place. Maybe they're even better at the dentistry, who knows.

I know for vehicle registration you do not need to spend a night in S. Dakota. Emails are all that is required. Not sure about drivers license. That may be where the night in S. Dakota comes in????

Living in Mexico with no property in US does create some issues. I use my kids address for some things like credit cards and drivers license. I also have a Az mail box, not USPS. That is good enough for Az to allow me a drivers license and vehicle registration if I desire. South Dakota is also good. Many here use them for US plated vehicle registration. I think basically only one county does that in S. Dakota. When you have permanent residency you will find having a Mexican car is easier for all things.
