Visiting Lake Chapala for a week in January 2023

Where would you recommend staying for a week in Lake Chapala this coming January? I'm hoping for something close to restaurants, beach, entertainment, workout facilities, etc. My hope is to find a location that allows me to interact with other expats and learn more about the area.

How old are you?? There are no beach.. if you live in Ajijic..lots of American..shops..walk to.. you can take the bus along the lake. About 25 kms.. there are lots of places for rent. From,$500 to+++((++
Lots of retired people.. a week? I would choose a motel myself. ..they are right on on the main streets..and then the bus

Good luck

Ummm, you may want to take a look at a map of Mexico….Lake Chapala is in the highlands, no where close to the coast ?. And the lake is stinky and polluted.

The Lake Chapala area has no name brand hotels or fast food restaurants. We do have nice private boutique hotels and B&B’s. You’ll have to Google or go to Hotels.com,

As far as a beach the malecón in Ajijic and Chapala are beautiful to walk along but there are no swimming or sin bathing beaches. However as someone replied who obviously does not live here the Lake does NOT stink and is far less polluted and improving each year.

You will find gringos, mainly US & CAD everywhere you go and just approach any of us with questions. I’d look up Lake Chapala Society a great reference to visit when you are here.

Buena suerte!

I echo Jubilacion. I just returned from 2 weeks in Ajijic though two of those nights were in Guadalajara. It’s in the mountains, 3.5 hours east of Puerto Vallarta and worlds apart. The lake is beautiful, does not smell and I’m glad to hear it’s improving. I hadn’t heard that. I look forward to returning in 2023. I stayed at Estrellitas.
