As a single female would you say San Miguel is a reasonably safe place to live alone

10 years ago I rented a house in SMA. Which I would suggest anyone do for 4-5 months before moving there. When I received my first lease, the statement of you cannot break the lease for "loud music, fireworks nor your neighbors crowing roosters' kind of made me chuckle. End the eend of reality, It was a hidden forwarning.
Is it safe? Well safer than alot of places, but safe is a hard one to say. Each neighborhood has their own 'safe/unsafe' issues.

It is a small city. People refer to it as 'Little San Francisco'. take that or leave it as you may.

I left after 5 months and moved back to USA for different reasons.

fast forward to 2018 I decided for a numer of reasons I was ready to move back to Mexico full time. I don't do beaches .....i dont like sand everywhere. I have long hair'd show dogs, so again I have to pick and choose.

I love the interior of Mexico. No humidity and pretty much dependable weather 12 months of the year. Exceptions rainy season. . But I love the area's outside of Queretaro. We have every Big Box USA store there is. From Home Depot, to Office Max, Petco, Sam's and Costco. You cannot beat the area. But again,, I do not live in Cities either. So I drew a circle of 1 hour around Qro. . I did NOT want to move back to San Miguel.... there are other wonderful area's in that circle! I ended up in Tequisquiapan. The pinacle of Wine and Cheese area. It is a very safe little town with a big tourist trade. 80's -50's temps pretty much the year round. Did I say safe? Safe anywhere is a realative subject. my first 3 mo here, I was burglerized where I was gone 30 minutes.......they came into the house WITH my 1 dog there, took my 3 ft tall safe and were out of the house in that time frame. We are sure we knew what they were getting and where things were. (boyfriend of the realtor). and I had an 8 foot tall fence around the property. So upon the advice of the police, I moved into a GAITED area. Where I haven't had any problems.....(so far).. and it is my 2nd area. You just have to take your time looking for the RIGHT place......
No matter WHERE you decide to live, SMA or TEQ or Bernal or Mex.City or Queretaro you have to be aware of your surroudings at all times! The problems I saw in SMA were women walking along the street alone, with a BIG PURSE and Jewlery. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know it doesnt matter if it is SMA, Mexico or New York City or Austin Texas that is just trouble looking to happen!
