Looking to retire (hopefully) in the next 5 years. I will be on a pension plan. I noticed residency financial solvency requirements continue to increase.
My question is: If I were to go to the local consulate, apply for temp residency (now ... before solvency requirements rise again) , then head to Mexico to finish process there, how long would it take?
More specifically, If I were to travel to Mexico for a few days, would I be able to get this done? Unable to stay several weeks.
Is this even worth doing at this point? Also, any suggestions on bringing local utility bill , or could I bring AirBnB receipt?

It usually takes one day to complete visa canje process. Plan a week just in case. Sometimes immigration office has internal issues like not having plastic cards or ink to print them ? Hire solicitor to prepare your documents (cost is between $190 and 250 USD). Let them set an appointment for you and fly to Mexico 2 days prior. Do not try to attempt to finish the process by yourself in such short time frame – you will not be able to do it. You don’t need AirBnB receipt with you, simply provide it to your facilitator. If you don’t have one then they usually use hotel address and it works just fine with immigration. Good luck…

Use a referral to find a person or agency to help you with the process. Locally here some advertise but don't have experience. Just looking for money then struggle to get the job done...if at all. Here in San Carlos there is a woman that can do many Mexican processes for you but she is not organized and often fills out the wrong form or give you the wrong date or time for your appointment. If time is an issue for you, and it looks like it is, know your facilitator is competent and they know your time is critical. I have the name of a local attorney or a woman that is very good at this if you want to use them. I don't think the location of your process is important just the card. Time is not critical for most Mexicans so make sure they know your time is.

You apply for residency based on your last 12 months income or total value of you financial/savings portfolio. They don't care about the value of your house and or what you owe or what you come down here with. That seems strange to me but was my experience. They figure if your past is good your future will be also. Many are here and not retired but have residency. Either come and go or working from home.

Shades, Attorney is Ricardo Vasquez number is +52 1 622 142 0063 call or Whatsapp. You can also use Liliana Miranda she uses Facebook messenger. Her number is + 1 52 1 644 233 9548. Both will do the work properly. He will be more expensive as he is an attorney and has an office, she does not. His English is very good her's is ok but you will have to pay more attention. Tell either of them Ron Capper sent you. Good luck. Her service is hands on. She will literally walk you thru the process. Ricardo will have his people do most of it. I used her. Good luck.

kitekyb:
The "solicitor" or "lawyer" types that you refer to, would you mind forward their contact info? Have you used them personally or just know of them from others? Either on this forum or to my email: [email protected]
Thank you

@JustForFun, Yes I used them personally and the process went smoothly. The cost was $250 USD per person. However the first part of the immigration process we did ourselves. So I don’t know if they are helping with getting visa at Mexican consulate (paperwork, appointment etc.) and what the price would be. The process of getting visa is very straightforward; there’s no reason to hire anyone to help you with this. I’ll send contact info to your email...

@JustForFun, Here's the link from this forum. It gives great information how the process work. We didn't use the company mentioned but I was in the contact with them. They are very slow to respond (my personal experience). https://www.expatexchange.com/expatguide/254/3453324/Mexico/Expats-Living-in-Mexico/Permanant-Residency-Process-Experience
