Jumping the Pond

Help! Coming from smalltown USA, I've had the hardest time trying to find the right opportunities (work, school etc.) to get me across the 'pond.' I've been trying to move to Europe -either France, Germany, UK, Sweden- for the last 10 years with little success. I speak decent French, a little German and some Swedish. I also have a BA in French Literature and tons of work experience as a writer for the marketing/advertising industry. Does anyone out there have a similar situation who can give me some sound advice and inspiration? I also have friends/associates in all the countries mentioned above--so I have a good support system in place. Thanks, merci, danke, tak!

HI! I too am jumping the pond as you say. I am moving to Barcelona, Spain this coming September. I am desperately looking for a job. I have experience in tourism and travel positions...but will take just about anything to begin with there. I know how you feel on setting things up. I do plan to travel a little towards the end of the year, so keeping in touch would be nice since you are traveling too. Good luck to you, Jen

i know you have probably tried it but- there are lots of american / British tourist businesses ( euro disney? etc) that may get you a start. mayby you could try putting a few wanted ads in the country you decide on OR could you teach english/languages OR translate documents etc.
a friend of a friend a few years ago made her living as a free lance translator/language teacher.
best of luck
