Is it possible to live 6 months in USA and 6 months in Europe?

I own my house in USA. I have both USA & EU passports. I am planning to relocate & am weighing my residence options. Getting a European resident visa can be a bureaucratic battle & paying taxes on my Social Security income is not ideal. Any opinion or advice on the viability of living 6 months in USA, then 6 months in France or Spain? Are 6 month leases common in France and Spain? Can I legally move from one EU country to another every 6 months to avoid resident visa paperwork? Any other things I should weigh? For 6 month leases, do landlords always need to see that you are registered and have an in-country bank account (in which case, one might as well apply for the resident visa)? thank you for any tips on this.
