Those of you in Canada - at least in southern and eastern Ontario - and the NE USA: if you rally enjoy the temps this weekend you will love the beaches of Panama, because this is what you get every day of the year. This what 90 F with humidity feels like. But some like it hot.

Pedasi beaches seldom reach 90 F except maybe in April & May. Never during the rainy season and with the ocean breezes there is not much humidity.

I hear you, SS. This whole El Nino year has been very trying for those of us who live on the beach. Right now, it is working my very last nerve.
As some of my friends say, you just lose all motivation in this heat. I do have one motivation increase - go to my room and turn on the air conditioner and stay there.
I understand that global warming is suppose to increase the number of years that El Nino dominates.

Off the beaches and up in the mountains we are no better off. Rivers look like they did in March after a long dry summer, they should be full and roaring by now but they are not. I don’t know if these rivers are fed from the mountain run off water or underground sources, but if we don’t get some good drenching rainfall up there over the next few months the coming summer could put us in a painful drought situation.

The deforestation in Panama has really hurt us this year. If the climate experts are correct, we will continue to have big water problems.
The new President is an agriculture expert; hopefully, he can make reforestation a priority. And I wish that more expats would choose the reforestation visa and help Panama and our quality of life. A person gets 5 hectares for 80k. It's cheaper than buying property. In my area, an acre would cost at least 80k

Well we had a great day here in Volcan. No rain. Not too hot and not too cold. Now the sky is clear filled with stars with a slightly cool breeze blowing. Absolutely perfect weather.

Well, Volcan
Can you send some of that to the rest of us who are suffering? Volcan, you have been here a long time. Today there was a very strong smell of what I could describe as fertilizer in our town - like tons of it. But I got to thinking that maybe it was mosquito spray. Have you encountered this odor?

Off to Toronto in a few days to catch some good Canadian summer and the long weekend in cottage country. As Panama advances with product availabilities, I am bringing less and less back with me. Red River cereal is a must, and while there a feast of 'peaches and cream' corn on the cob is a major event, and I haven't seen prime rib here in Panama that is any good. Bacon I find at PriceSmart except they don't have Canadian back bacon. I may bring back some maple syrup but that is now available in Panama. Products are now mostly available in Panama, so I am not missing much these days.

Thank God for swimming pools and oceans. Lol I grew up in Toronto and hate it there, way too busy, too many people, too much traffic, yuck!

I love Toronto, as do millions of people. The only negative is the winter. That's why I will spend my summers in Toronto and my Winters in Panama.

I never smell any odour of chemicals here. I am about a mile from the edge of town or that is I used to be. Volcan is growing very fast almost booming I would say. While I am still in the country the town is encroaching. Apparently they are going to pave the road to my house. The first time in the 20 years I have been here. They were measuring it a few days ago. The traffic in Volcan is getting to be too much. There wasn't hardly any traffic here a few years ago. I don't think there are many more expats. It is the Panamanians. They have a lot more money than they used to have. Also I think the Chinese are in love with Volcan. They have most of the businesses here and it seems like every day they are building a new one. Over the years the climate has been getting drier and warmer. Not a bad thing as Volcan used to be too chilly and too wet so the climate is actually better than before. Now we have 8 or 10 supermarkets with Romeros being open 24 hours a day. Naturally the Chinese own most of them. They built a new hospital a couple of years ago. Now that Volcan is a new separate district they will be building a new municipal building. Maybe it will be getting too urban for me. I am a country person.
