Visit to Panama

Hello,
My wife and I are planning to retire in the next few years. I have been doing alot of research for Panama. We are coming on December 11 this year and would like to scout out a few possible locations. We would love to be near the beach, although I do not mind driving so I am not locked in to being close. I would also consider a place where the humidity is more comfortable. We live in Texas, so the heat is not an issue. We will be there for the week and will be renting a car. We have a City, and canal tour scheduled, but the rest of the week we are going to visit a few possible locations. Can anyone give suggestions on some locations to visit? Like I said, we are not rich, and would be living from the funds from selling our home, and might start some type of a small business just for some extra income. I dont want to be in the jungle, but I also do not want to be in the city. I have heard that some of the usual places like Pedasi, Bocas, and David are becoming a little more pricey due to the popularity. I would love to find a small populated area, where we can still meet people and socialize with new friends. I am originally from Venezuela and have traveled the world. My wife has not traveled out of the country except just a couple of times. I speak fluent Spanish and My wife is looking forward to learning the language. We have been married for 32 years and are ready to start the next chapter in our lives. I would also like to see if anyone can tell me more about the fact that as an american in panama, that you would have to be in the united states for 30 days consecutively every 6 months in order to maintain social security benefits? Has anyone found a way around this? Thank you and I hope to meet some of you soon.
Thanks,
