Two military flights will be conducted for Americans who want to return to their country

The United States Embassy in Panama announced, this Saturday, March 28, that there are two military flights planned for Americans or legal permanent residents, who are accompanying relatives with US citizenship, and who wish to leave the country.

Regarding these evacuation options, in the face of the new coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), he warned that "there are no guarantees of these flights or the space available."

Military flights are scheduled for April 2 and 4, with a limited number of seats available.

We are in the process of notifying people who have already expressed their interest in being evacuated from Panama on these flights, according to a statement from the US Embassy.

Flight itinerary:

April 2: Leaves Panama Pacifico International Airport at 9:05 p.m. and arrives at Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, Florida at 1:15 a.m., on April 3.

April 4: Departs from Panama Pacifico International Airport at 4:53 pm and arrives at Goodfellow Air Force Base, in San Angelo, Texas at 8:43 pm

Requirements and restrictions

- Flights are restricted to US citizens and lawful permanent residents, who accompany family members with US citizenship.

- All passengers must be in possession of a valid US passport or I-551 (green card) to qualify for a flight.

- Availability will be based on a first-come, first-served basis and will require a financial commitment in the form of a repatriation loan for the one-way fare calculated by the State Department to the destination of the aircraft, which “is not negotiable”.

- All passengers must sign a promissory note to guarantee payment of the required fare.

- The embassy clarified that the flights will arrive at the military installations in the United States and from there the people will be responsible for their transportation.

- Reports that the closest major airport to Fort Walton Beach is in New Orleans, LA; and the closest to San Angelo is San Antonio, Texas.

- People who are sick will not be allowed to fly. Passengers before leaving Panama and upon arrival in the United States, will undergo a temperature control.

- Luggage is restricted to two bags that cannot exceed 70 pounds. totals.

- Service animals can be authorized on the flight on April 2.

- Travelers may carry limited fluids and snacks.

The Embassy also disclosed that additional Defense Department flights are scheduled until April 9, with limited seats. He assured that they will continue to investigate additional military and civilian commercial options.
