Hi! We are a family of 5 (with 3 kids), currently living in Hong Kong. We are thinking of moving to Philippines particularly to Boracay. Does anyone have experience of moving there with kids? Some advice? As I understand, we can apply for special visa only, like investment one (if we buy a restaurant/cafe for example). Is it possible to get such a visa? Or is it quite complicated? Non of us is Filipino.

To own a business here you must have a 60% Filipino partner. But I garuantee you will be expected to put up 100% of the investment and 100% of running costs and you can have 40% of the nett profits good business I don't think Why did you pick Philippines with kids? Barocay is very nice to visit but not sure about a foreigner living there. If you have a good pension you could stay here for 36 monthsvon a tourist visa. If you have to work not a good place to be. Have you seen a restaurant for sale? Or are you thinking of starting from scratch? The place is full of them. Education could be a problem not sure if there is an immigration office on the islandon the outskirts of the beach is like a slum area not sure if I would live there or not

I know I am being nosey but why pick Philippines to move your family to?, it is absolutely nothing like hong Kong, if I had a young family I would not choose this place at all.. Sorry to be so negative This country is ok to retire to but to try to work or run a business its a no no in my opinion. Others might have a more positive information for you.

As you probably know there is a lot of problems here at the moment I would not advise coming here at all for a while.

Draks - my husband and I are considering a move to Boracay too, with our 2.5-year-old. Can you elaborate more? What are the current problems, why would are you recommending staying away from the island? Any information, observations or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Lexeus1 ~ I know of a nice apartment for rent 50 feet from the beach for 10,000 pesos per month, or you can buy all 8 units for a little less than 12 million pesos. Bora (It's nickname as in people named Robert like to be called Bob) is nice, on the beach. It is not so nice away from the beach, and I don't know about schools if you stay long enough for your little one to have the need.

Did you move there? I’m relocating my family of 5 as well and thought of borocay. You only live once you know.

H2008 You do know that Boracay was closed down because of human and industrial waste was flowing into the sea, so many illegal hotels and houses who ignored local bylaws, so Du30 shut the place down. If neither of you a Filipino you can't buy property, you can only own 40% of any business. School here is not so good only quite expensive international schools are worth looking at. I have a 3 year old here in luzon, he will go to an international school near here. Philippines is an extremely poor country, the poorest in SE Asia I think. Don't think there is a good international school on boracay island. Do some thorough research before you come here.

YES please do some checking before showing up on Boracay. Saw something the other day that they are even cancelling Visa and work permits for foreigners already there. Only a small part is going to remain open for " tourists" most of the island will revert to agriculture for the indigenous people. Verify for yourself but just don't show up.

Whilst they are restricting people until October the island is still open to investment and residency on a new part of the island. I have some details. They are building a new resort area for both residency and business. It is correct that they are giving land back to the Ati, butnit isn’t affecting anything other than the wetlands.
It will be more difficult to get there as a resident but not impossible. I am getting residency on Aklan first to assist me with the whole Boracay thing, I will get that residency easier as my intended is Aklanon and we intend to live there eventually with a small business in Boracay, but we already have an in road as a lot of her family also live and reside on Boracay. The whole tourist with return end of this year, but it will be for less tourists as some of the accommodation has already been knocked down.

You don't have to have a pension to get a tourist visa. I was in Boracay last October. The pollution was not as bad as some people or the government are making it out to be. The beach and water was still cleaner the most other parts of the Philippines I have been. Inland is a different story. They have flooding problems due to inadequate or no drainage.

Do urslf & ur family & stand well clear of Boracay. As a foriegner they'll see u coming & jack up all the permits & title's etc.As well as above mentioned u will be bored stupid after a few months,it not that big.Plenty of other decent places to both live & invest in my friend. It's a fantastic place to visit but soon bores u silly due to the limited daily routine & money hungry locals with their hands out.

Buang, changed your plans again? You said you were going to live and work in Makati for 2 or 3 years, and wanted CHEAP accommodation there. Then you have a farm in Aklan and you want livestock, so you can give it to the needy, now your going to start a small business in Boracay, after you have residency. Having residency won't give you the rights to 100% of any business still only 40%. Unless you become a citizen. Can't figure out if you are totally full of BS or you know absolutely nothing about the Philippines and its culture. You wife is still working abroad so the only visa you can have is a visitors visa basically. You said before you are wealthy enough not to have to work, really? Sorry I personally don't believe a word your saying. You change everything each time you post. Maybe you want to own the Philippines eventually.
