China and Chinese

I dedicate this topic to Surfer....

I think I know Chinese people as well as anyone. The mother of my eldest child is pure Chinese (born in the Philippines). She is the mother of my son whom I've mentioned several times on this forum, who was educated in the Philippines, did great on his SAT's and last year graduated from New York University (NYU). He's now travelling the world but is residing in the Philippines with his mother. They are a wealthy Chinese business family. As the son-in-law I moved into their house (Chinese custom) and lived there for 10 years. Surfer's stereotyping of Chinese mistreating animals, maids etc... is not really correct. Basically you have the well educated and the non educated. My ex in-laws met at Berkley in the 1950's. Rich families in the Philippines sent their children to be educated in the U.S. I agree the Chinatown wealthy uneducated ones are rude and ruthless. The wealthy Chinese (especially in the Philippines) have their own fraternity. They control the country. The very rich are on a different level in the Philippines. My ex brother-in-law is married to the daughter of Agustin Perdices (former Mayor Dumaguette for 18 years and Governor of Negros Oriental). Traditional Chinese are very serious people. You hardly ever see them smile or laugh. I never saw my ex mother-in-law hug my ex-wife. They are serious people and a force to be reckoned with. I have no doubt that China will control the world in the future. They strive harder and are more focused on future success than the average western thinking person. I hope {'m wrong but god help all of us in the future.
