I found a YouTube clip on sent's that mosquito's hate. The sent they hate the most is Lavender. I used to plant it around my exterior doors. What I use now is one of those room fragrance misters. I put the lavender sent in the water mix and the mosquito's don't enter the bedroom. Smells good too,

I found fans to be the best solution. Mosquito can't land easily with moving air, and there is a bonus that I stay cool!

(Or burning a citron coil under my chair, but Sitting in that smoke cloud day after day will probably cause cancer over time!)

Asawa is correct, mosquitoes really don’t like moving air , fans also help with flys if you have them in the area as well. Plus, if you’re at sea level the humidity is really really high . I live up in the mountains so I don’t even use air conditioner at night. However the mosquitoes and flies find me easily. Screens help. So the screens on doors and windows which is the obvious. It seems like such an obvious item that most rental suites don’t have.

If you’re in a mosquito Infested area.... beat to consider being in doxycycline 100md/ day . Obviously check with your doctor. It’s the go to drug for malaria and high mosquito infested areas. This is the only antibiotic I know of that actually kills the parasite of malaria. Antibiotic is also dynamite on G.I. type infections and food poisoning. Very wide spectrum and cheap. The only side effect I have experienced well on them, is a little bit of tiredness, and more sun sensitivity. However it’s very mild. Hope that helps someone down the road. Malaria can be a very serious parasite to get. It’s making a comeback in the Philippines big time. You can also come back to haunt you too. I have had malaria, in Latin America, I thought I was gonna die.

Surf - is Old Spice really a good mosquito blocker? If so, it's a no brainer for me. I'd cover myself in it....

Dark , I have noticed when I put it on less mosquitos are around. It’s not like deet, but better for you. Deet works good but I’m always concerned about health effects.

For anti-Malaria, I used to get prescriptions for Lariam (mefloquine).

On the positive side, you just have to take it once a week. However, it was discontinued because the side-effects included nightmares, paranoia, hallucinations, and psychotic breaks. (But, you were safe from Malia!)

Most of my relatives are o-positive blood type, so the mosquito's prefer them.

(Yeah, that's an actual thing. For whatever reason, research says mosquitos are more attracted to folks with O+ blood!)

Dear Asawa - Mosquitos love my B-Positive blood so much that I can't even imagine being O Positive. I would be cannabalised in seconds!

Asawa- that’s interesting. I also hear they are attracted to CO2. Lot big breathers and groups get attention.

I've noticed they are attracted to certain foods. None around then when my Gal puts supper on the table here they come. Must be the Soy or the Oyster sauce.

Old Army remedy...Avon Skin so Soft. I know it sounds ridiculous but hey, in my 27 years in the woods...it works.

LovePhilly You are right about Avon. I have read that before, many times. Skin so Soft is excellent.

Woodstock anniversary coming up soon. Woodstock, NY and Bethal Woods (where festival took place are both 45 minutes from my hometown.

ACE - Are you going? I was visiting a close friend in Philadelphia ( I was 15 yrs old and lived in Gallup, NM at the time ) and we heard rumors about Woodstock. We almost went but were too afraid - just being kids. I wish I had gone. I still love watching the movie. Those were some of the most electric and inspired performances I have ever seen. BTW - about 2 weeks after Woodstock I saw Led Zeppelin in Albuquerque - I think it was their first USA Tour (not sure) but they were fairly new - and I will never, ever forget THAT night. It still gets my blood pumping every time I think about it. Zep Rules !!

Dark and Ace: Just read in Rolling Stone now The Dead have dropped out of Woodstock 50. John Fogerty and Jay Z had already given notice. Promoter is still trying but every venue has turned him down. Latest hopeful is some pavilion in Martha's Vineyard. Not looking like much left to go see anyway.

Larry - Sad. I guess there is no more Sentimentality anymore - but then again, Jay-Z and many others weren't even close to being born yet. As to the Dead - I guess they "Dropped Dead". Where's Hendrix when ya need him???

I know someone who has a house only minutes away from where the original festival was held. They moved in only months before. The place was a total mess afterwards. I'm sure there are not that many people out there that want to have their property damaged and the mess that's left behind. The latest news is tickets will be free but still looking for a location.

Mosquitos.

I live at sea level on Mactan, which is a haven for mossies after heavy rain.

I have tried all the gadgets and repellers from the UK to no avail. Not even a UV insectocutor worked.

The only remedy that worked for me is deet.

It's hard to find deet in the Philippines. The locals, through their ancestral evolution when migrating through what is present day Indonesia, developed some immunity to mossies. They never need deet, so selling it here is akin to opening a tanning salon for Pinays.

I had to import all my deet from the UK.

A non-brand insect repellent from Robinsons, called Odorless Multi-insect Killer keeps the room clear or mossies and cockroaches temporarily.
