I (USA Citizen) have been living here in the Philippines for 5 and a half years now. I exit and return to the philippines every 3 years. I have several health issues where I am prohibited to travel. I am wondering how I can proceed to stay in Philippines after my 3 years are up.
Any responses will be appreciated.

Are you married to a Filipina? If not - you can marry one :) and get a 13a visa. If I remember corect with such you need just to travel to a BI office once per year, no need of leaving the Philippines.
Or SRRV for retired but that's expensive. It has big demand of bank deposit (although alloved to use it in some situations.)

coach - your funny " are you married to a filipina ? well, you can marry one and then get a 13A .." LMAO !!! I had a good laugh .
He could be a REAL Pinoy and Marry two or three ( one on each island ) and never bother with paperwork at all, too ?! HA!!! :)
No kidding, I have a Pinoy buddy who has two wives . I find it super strange . BUT its a cultural thing I guess - he does not . I think its against the law though in the RP . The RP has some really strange public conduct and family laws ...so strange . Of course non of this applies to that village 100km from a supermarket or town .
I ride my bike up to remote villages - wonderful people . made some really good friends . its like another planet !
we have to laugh at ourselves once in a while - BEST medicine for the soul .
Peaceful day guys !

surf "coach - your funny " are you married to a filipina ? well, you can marry one and then get a 13A .."" Is FALSE "quoting" your new thing? It's languable enough you and your buddies try to fool anyone to believe "USA fight for democrazy" SMILE
"He could be a REAL Pinoy and Marry two or three ( one on each island ) and never bother with paperwork at all, too" Perhaps marrying several because cheating is illegal in Phils hihi If a marriage is proper registered, I suppouse they would notice, but some poor Filipinos don't register proper, not even births I ask them which if someone try to get annulment - and don't want to become muslim :) A father-in-law to one of my foreign friends aren't married to more than one, but have made some of the daughters-in-law pregnant too! And not suprising if some of the kids to his daughters are his too, because child abuse and incest are very common in Phils according to a research made by - I have forgot which that friend of mine told. WHO? That research say around 1/3 of the boys are victims of such. Perhaps tought by the Vatikan... :)

Surf; I met my wife when stationed in Bahrain in 1979. There were many Filipino's there, working in the government hospitals, the Arab Shipyard & Repair (ASRY), Brown & Root (a Haliburton company) and many contractors. They were only able to go home once a year and sometimes once every two years. As life goes, the OFW's would be homesick and the guys would end up with fellow OFW Filipina girlfriends. Some got pregnant and were sent home by the Bahrain government. Or somebody got jealous, tsismis (gossip) started and you had all the makings on a real life teleserye (TV drama). I went back to Bahrain for a week as a government contractor in 1991. The Filipinos are truly as innovative as their reputation. Many had become Muslim so they could have a wife in the Philippines and one in Bahrain. Having said all that, I'm amazed by the OFW's. I can't imagine leaving my spouse and family behind, going overseas to send money home to provide for them, not getting to see my kids grow up, Hell, it was difficult for me on a 6 month deployment! Glad that many are able to bring their families with them now. Enjoy the cool Canadian west coast weather. Hot & humid here on the U.S. east coast. --- Tom

Tom - interesting story. I can’t recall how it is linked to our last communication, however interesting nonetheless.
OFW workers, sacrificed so much for what I see so little. But survival in survival. I respect than a lot wherever I see them. As you know, they are probably feeding about 10 to 15 people in one form or another. If only the government could get their act together and start extracting natural resources for export in a environmentally friendly way. People could stay home and live a solid middle-class life. Lopez and Company ruined that, but maybe will reappear.
I want a portion of the king king mine, so I’ll put that right out there I am somewhat biased. I have written the government and offered to post a bond, if we start at operation. The bond would respond to any environmental damage. Also, guaranteed 200 jobs paying $20 US an hour for the first three years. Supposed to see the environment is protected and thousands of families would benefit from the jobs. Still still,The government is hesitant to open up any form of natural resource extraction like the rest of the world. Canada, for example, extract massive amounts of ore and Natural resources for export. Some impact to the environment but the trade-off is excellent. The Philippines has options other than starvation. Here on the West Coast of Canada. On Vancouver Island , it is 31°C. A bit of humidity in the air, fresh air, zero crowds, and not one case reported of China flu over the last three months. In October when the westerlies start to blow. It can get down to 10°C on average. That’s what keeps everything so green all year long. Going swimming, and salmon fishing this afternoon for the afternoon bite. Very easy to catch five or six salmon and as many cod as you want. However, in October I usually head to the Philippines to see relatives and friends for 5 to 6 months. Great life. I appreciate every moment.
Have a great day Tom .

Surf: Tom - interesting story. I can’t recall how it is linked to our last communication, however interesting nonetheless. -- It wasn't linked but jogged a memory. Lucky you are to be where you are. It works well with the 6 months here 6 months there is you're on the west coast. October to March are definitely the best months to be in P.I. Those are the relatively cooler months and you go home April to September and avoid the hottest months and the rainy season. For us on the east coast we come back to heat and humidity, especially June-August. If you come back to Las Vegas or Phoenix, it's brutal! Just saying. ---Tom

Tom - definitely like Florida and South Carolina ... some hot Latina's there for sure and nice weather . use to like San Diego to Oceanside and Redding Calif area . BUT California is SO nutty now . The left have got it cornered now . Police let people do whatever . San Fransisco is a $hit hole now . worse than Oakland I think . Too bad .
Florida always appealed to me ... however the Canadian buck does not go far and hurricanes can be an issue . was down the Keys a coupe years ago . lovely time .... Cuban population are nice enough . love their coffee !

surf "If only the government could get their act together and start extracting natural resources for export in a environmentally friendly way. " You are right - and wrong too SMILE if you talk about mining again, becuase the mining companies have shown they don't do it environmentally friendly. They have destroyed suppoused to be by law PROTECTED forests and several rivers and land downstreams are DESTROYED allready...
"The bond would respond to any environmental damage." Well. When rivers and land around get destroyed, then the mining company got a REDIVILOUS LOW punnishment fee, showing they don't need to bother...
BUT there is an OTHER natural resource the Philippines is terrible at now but have possibility to become very good at = FORESTRY. There are A LOT of land where forests are cut down - legaly or not legaly - and then NOT REPLANTED!!! Understandable if making farmland of it. BUT there are a lot of land NOT USED for anything, suiting to have forestry at!!! Perhaps it has to do with redicilous several and sudden cut bans at PLANTED forests punnishing LEGAL foresters to try to stop ILLEGAL logging - who go on cuting anyway... (E g a local ban at Mindanao rather recently, but I suppouse it scared foresters a lot elsewhere before it got announced it became "only" local.) Or perhaps it has to do with Filipinos aren't famous for thinking long ahead as chineese SMILE (Some successful business Filipinos have chinese blood e g the founder of Cebu Pasific and Globe.)
There are "reforestry programs", but it's much needed the government GUARANTEE FOR EVER people can harvest their forests if they invest in planting...
- - tom "October to March are definitely the best months to be in P.I." Well. Depending of in which weather zone in RP. They are very different. In some places as e g Surigao during that period it rain more in a MONTH than in a whole YEAR in Sweden (including snow) and many find it raining to much in Sweden haha
