I am wondering if any of our members have experience of crop sharing and if so if they would care to share their experiences good or bad ?

insite - crop sharing ... the devil is in the details . Family ? , do you need to do this ? what crops ? legal paper work ? what scale are we talking about ? Is is ok with Brgy office ? what triggered you to do this ? You are experienced in farming and crop divisions? I dont see foreigners tied up in crop sharing too often . I have seen it work under Special Circumstances though . Need your details though ...
Things can go sideways quickly in the RP ...so asking a lot of questions is the right thing to do .
Peace be with you and always . Surf !

During the 80s, it was 60/40. That is 60% of the crop goes to the landowner and 40% goes to the tenants/farmers. Irrigation is shouldered by the landowner too in this type of sharing while the tilling, planting, raising, & harvesting of the crop were done by the tenants. Not sure about the fertilizers and herbicides - as far as the ratio of expenditures sharing goes. I was based in the Bicol region and this was how they did it with their rice harvest. I hope this helps.

Farming is hard hard hard work in RP, with mega risk and little profits. Rice, mungo beans ...whatever. It’s what many Pinoy know though , and they tend to gravitate towards this.
Money loosing, high risk venture.

Here is my experience... My brothers in law are farmers with no land, no money... someone in the barangay had land but no sons... for 50k the landowner would allow my in-laws to work the land... they were able to get 3 rice crops and one corn crop every year,,, which they would sell and me being the be the supplier of the 50k would get all I needed... I raise 'wild' pigs their primary food is the rice bran (toyo) and corn and of course we eat rice too. After several years one of the daughters of the landowner married and his son-in-law wanted to work the land... he watched for a couple of crops, then the landowner returned the full 50k and we started again with a different landowner... I told them we should just buy our own land and they didn't feel the need and that was a good decision, they will hopefully be immigrating to the US next year after a ten-year wait... but that's a different story

Thank you for your welcome feedback Surf .
The details are in outline as yet ( hence our questions ) and so we are very flexible but here is our current thinking regardless :
My wife's family are subsistence farmers/sari sari store owners in Davao Oriental and have assisted us to establish a 12 Ha plantation of Falcatta and Abaca etc in the area which is presently maturing well and as anticipated. So an equitable working relationship has already been established.
She will now qualify with a Masters in Business and wishes to establish an Agri Supply business in the town, that along with a thoroughbred dog breeding business there.
Her sister who will participate in the business has a BSc in Agriculture
The crop selection remains open but obviously initially those that are most in-demand and familiar to local farmers would be most likely at least until established. Market conditions will also influence choice if and when success was achieved with this venture then more specialized crops could be considered.
There is no need to do it just a desire on my wifes part to have an involvement in the business of agriculture.
Legal frameworks would be established through the Barangay / Lawyer as requisite and I cannot see any reason why it might be unacceptable ( I should remember where I am I suppose Ha )
In terms of scale, it would be small to moderate to start - nothing large scale at this stage at least.
The reason to do it is my wife's choice - she will use her farming background, contacts, support and business knowledge to drive it. Crop sharing would be complementary to the main core business.
There will be no overt foreign participation in the business in the Agri Supply business.

Inside- go so very careful. The system is set up to extract money from foreigners. I have seen plenty of smarter ones than you , totally scammed by “ official “ types and experts.
Very careful... a field of land mines. Gods speed, Surf.

As mentioned there is no forigner presence - my dealings are with the family direct and I have absolutly no profile whatsoever so if its a scam its a scammer scamming a local.
I am already doing lucrative business with the family and there are no issues.

There is no such thing as a thoroughbred dog. At least no one in the dog world in the world refers it that way. Maybe in horses. In dogs it's pedigreed dogs which only means a dog with proper breeding documentation from a official kennel club somewhere. Does she know anything about dogs or different breeds? Just wondering where are you when all these business ideas are happening?

I along with an Aussie friend based in Butuan will deal with the " purebred " dog side of the business.
Some of the animals will be based there and others in Baganga Oriental.
He knows plenty about it whilst I am learning a great deal from him.
We will import a couple of breeds from abroad to start.
My wife will look after all other aspects of our businesses.
