Would I be denied residency in the Philippines due to having genital herpes?

Emigrant-My GUESS is yes! Unless you are required to have a complete health exam to enter here you might get buy without disclosing it. Just dont go spreading it around when you get here. Its always better to be upfront about everything you say and do.Sometimes a small white lie is necessary.I dont know what to tell you other than use your own best judgement. There are always consequences for our actions/choices we make......Jimmy(Pic share is a Chinese family I taught English to on Sundays when I was in Shanghai 2010-2012 teaching English at a university.. I spent the day with them on a 10 hr layover on my way to Calif Thanksgiving 2018. Awesome family. I 1st met them when Helen the daughter was just 12 yrs old. Now she is a University student......Jimmy

Generally speaking: • If you are on maintenance medication like Valtrex (Valaciclovir)... and • You can prove that you are managing any condition... and • You will affirm that you intend to continue managing your condition responsibly...
Then, you are likely to be ok. However, I can make no promises.
Most of my medical exam and immigration knowledge involves coming to the US from the Philippines. That process requires people seeking Marriage or Fiance Visas to the US, to go to St. Lukes Medical Center in Manila for a doctors exam, and nothing short of Tuberculosis tends to cause a problem. (And, if you begin treatment... and have documentation that you are receiving treatment... even that denials can be appealed).
My main comment though, is that you should be responsible, ensure that you will have continued access to any maintenance medication to limit outbreaks, and avoid unnecessary (uninformed) contact with anyone during periods where you might be contagious.
One other random note, the Philippines is really hot and sticky... and even healthy skin can suffer uncomfortable rashes and chaffing due to the tropical climate. I'm merely speculating, but flair-ups might be especially miserable in a tropical climate.
If your post is a real question, these are the only opinions that i can offer. You'd be wise to check with an international immigration attorney who specializes with petitions to the pipelines... if you are genuinely concerned. A one hour consult at $125-250 could save you a lot of stress and help you level-set your expectations.

In the eleven years I have lived here, I have never been asked to have a medical. So my guess is you can come here and stay here no problem. My concern is You spreading herpes.

I agree with Draks. You can tell yourself you arent gonna be intimate with a woman but things happen unexpectedly and you could break your promise to yourself. If you are asked that question on an application/form before you enter the Philippines and lie and then Philippines finds out later you had it and lied on your application/form they might very well deport you. Just get rid of the disease before you come here and that should cover you.I believe this can be cured before you come to the Philippines. Just dont come here with it if you can avoid doing that.Jimmy

Herpes is not something you get rid of and there are 2 principal types (1 and 2). If you ever had or get fever blisters on your mouth(you have herpes). Approximately 75-85% of people in the world including Filipino's have this. Herpes 2 is simply the same thing but in a different location, and those numbers are lower at 15-20%, with the vast majority either not knowing or choosing to not know. Neither lowers your life expectancy, and is a nuisance but manageable and not a big deal for adults. A bigger issue in the Philippines and rising fastest in Asia is HIV. Many more men are enjoying some of the lovely trans ladies of the Philippines without proper protection. In the Philippines always have good condoms, and if you decide to date a Ladyboy or Trans be aware the receiving partner is 10X more likely to catch it then the giver. Be smart, aware, and don't assume she is on birth control or has nothing. People are not banned from the Philippines for herpes, as hardly a death sentence.

MAttin- good advice. Yes the RP is crawling with HIV now . Such a pity. Number 1 in Asia , depending on what survey you review. Thailand used to be . Now the Philippines is very close or beats it . HIV can ruin your life . Be very careful.
I see some of the young kids who spent time in the city or resorts that come home because of sickness. So sad .

Matt, not to be argumentative but I have a somewhat different opinion about herpes.
Herpes is a life long condition which requires constant monitoring and vigilance. There is NO cure for herpes. It can easily be transmitted through sexual contact. When a pregnant lady gives birth special care should be taken if she’s infected with herpes. While some are conscientious and try not to spread the virus, many are not. A Filipina who is unknowingly infected with the virus can have a difficult time simply affording medication, not to mention the social repercussions.
We often discuss the many scams Filipina’s employ with foreigners but seldom if ever discuss the many foreigners who come to the Philippines with the goal of simply having sex with as many women as possible. They promise everything but next week another town, another lady and more unfulfilled promises. Of course in the U.S. this kind of behavior (knowingly infecting a unknowing person) is actionable (tort law) and even criminal in some jurisdictions.
I raise this point because things such as herpes that can be easily managed and controlled in the U.S. can be a life long tragedy for a Filipina struggling to get by.
Respectfully, Earnie

Ernie, I appreciate you're disagreement and how respectfully it was done. I certainly know someone like us that has dealt with this will have a greater understanding of the virus. I am not sure how long you have dealt with it, but been 12 years for me. I have not had and outbreak since my initial outbreak, and have never transmitted it since, an even 3 nurses had no problem dating me in the USA. There is no medication as valtrex can help if sexually active, but it's much more about paying attention to your body. If you have a fever blister on you're mouth, do not kiss or give oral pleasures. Hopefully you have had success managing the condition as I have done. It's hardly a death sentence, and hurts less then Poison Ivey. If you look at the numbers Genital Warts is a much greater problem everywhere, and no cure, and it can lead to cancer.

Great points Ernie . The “sexpats” are scum and basic predators. I seen a few taken into the jungles by fathers and uncles , never to be seen again . The PNP don’t even look for them. The Sexpats eventually get what’s coming to them , as do the Pinoy / Pinay scammers .
The sexpats are real tough to be around, and give the normal guys / gals when you see them in town. Personally I just ignore and warn the local girls in kind .

Matt, your assumption is incorrect. Fortunately I have never had any std including herpes and intend to keep it that way. I am happy to hear that you have and continue to keep yours under control. As I said before it’s much easier for you, an obviously sophisticated and educated individual, to handle a situation like this than an unsophisticated lady of meager means.
Let me finish by saying I certainly admire your candor in this discussion and hope others will take heed.
Respectfully, Earnie
