A recent topic, removed by Peacekeeper for no stated reason even though I requested, the same in a PM to him, concerned mutual defense treaties in S.E. Asia. I noticed today that the US Secretary of Defense called US support of the Phils "ironclad" and said it was high up on the US list of treaties. That gets us part way to my answers. I await other countries affirmation of this deal.

No enemies fear the U.S. and no allies trust the U.S. with the current administration. Who would in light of the Afganistan debacle?

Removed? Yes, mine as well, even though it was a simple topic. I wrote without reply. My guess is American culture is quickly turning into a 'hen-house'.

Frankly. I am disappointed in the rudeness of no response. It surprises me as it is something I never expected. Nobody is that busy unless he is ill or on holiday.

Perhaps there is a disconnect with the forum's mission statement of "A world of Friends Abroad".

If you've bookmarked the discussion page directly, consider revisiting and reflecting on the intent of hosts.

The intended target audience of ExpateExchange is: "...you're moving overseas, a digital nomad, a repatriate, an expat or a retiree who enjoys international living,"

With a goal to "supported people as they explore the world and share the adventures and challenges of living abroad."

When pondering why your posting has disappeared, consider contrasting the content against the AboutUs page for this forum:

[...]"We set out to create a platform that empowers expats to help each other. So when someone decides to move to another country, they can benefit from the wisdom gleaned by those that already have made the move."

The AboutUs Page Continues, "In other words, Expat Exchange isn't just for finding what you need... it's also about helping others along the way. Expats are often surprised how taking the time to make someone else's journey easier makes the entire expat experience so much more rewarding..."

The problems begin when we veer away from a "World of Friends Abroad" and "Taking time to make someone else's journey easier". :-)

Issues arise, when forum members veer off on tangents where:

1) Folks don't act like friends (IE: Bonds of Mutual Affection) as stated in the branding statement

2) Participants are misaligned with the Audience’s Intended audience (IE: an expat or a retiree who –DOES NOT– enjoy living abroad)

3) Topic that stray from adventures or challenges of living abroad (such as personal political views or anything outside of soliciting help/advice for particular situations)

When members stray from the intent of the forum, things start to devolve.

This is evident when the focus shifts towards "Showcasing Expiate Personalities" rather than “Providing substantial information” in a friendly format focused on sharing adventures and the challenges of living in the Philippines.

You could also make arguments that conversation typically devolve from “helpful” to "Dismissive" and "confrontational" within 5-7 replies, and new threads are sometimes started to air grudges (or continue squabbles).

Please remember, this forum is intended to provide "Guides to give your dreams directions" not to provide "cautionary tales to alarm, distress and demoralize interested parties". Constructive advice on cautions is great, but there is an art to providing the details without venting, ranting and attacking on those who disagree.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here. I only want to point out (dispassionately) where things go astray and problems arise.

Try to keep the forum’s goal in mind: "World of Friends Abroad" and "Taking time to make someone else's journey easier".

Kindest Regards,
-Asawa

'No response' usually means no excuse...at least a rational, justified, excuse. It's now common and it's abuse. I suspect America is falling into some form of 'censorship'. These people are all afraid of some supervisor firing their @ss.

It is also known as "virtue signalling" See what a good guy I am is what it is selling.

If the management had simply written a PM and said we think your post is out of bounds and said why I would have understood its objection. As it is, I feel discriminated against for no known reason rather than having learned more about the forum.

Well, slowly people are being subjected to involuntary rule. It's happening at an astronomical speed. Multi-national corporations are shutting down dissent. Perhaps before the American political audit is complete and announced. Doing work for Biden that the military should do. Enjoy the day!!!

Maybe they just want to stop this forum becoming a political platform where people get angry and snipe at each other. It happened before. Maybe they don't want it again.

Tsmslf
  9/13/2021 18:27 EST

Draks, that would be fine but let them respond and say that the post was over that line, not have you speculating about it.

I doubt you remember the post and your comments are but another example of virtue signalling.

I am pretty sure that you are right Draks. This forum went to crap a couple of years ago. After they got rid of a couple of total A-holes, it was friendly and useful again. It is not that bad now, but possibly going down the same road. I joined quite a few years ago and learned a lot from people when I was still in the USA. I have been using this forum for about 10 years or more. It really deteriorated a couple of years ago. Hopefully. that does not happen again.

Mr. Razor, have you read the posts at issue and do you remember them in any detail? if not, you are compoun-ding Draks speculation and each of you is acting irresponsibly out of ignorance of the facts. You have no idea as to whether Draks is right or wrong as you are just guessing and applying your interpretation of the site's history to an example of which you know none of the facts.
Such lacks logic at least, is irrespons-ible as I said and not much of an argument in support of your accusation as to another member's conduct of which you have no pertinent facts. .

Ts: This is not court. You are fairly new and were not here when the forum went to crap. Draks and I were here. Pretty simple counselor. He is one of the ones that has given good information over the years without injecting politics. Correct me if I am wrong, but those subjects are still available under "Hot Topic".

Great comments Asawa- There are always bullies somewhere in any forum trying to get attention. I keep anything that may be critical or offend anyone in a private message and 90% of my messages are now sent in private, I am here to offer any experience I have had in my 9 years living here in the Philippines and have received many messages from others in private. Let's all remember what these forums are for. Great comments Asawa! We can all learn from each other!

I prefer not to argue with you but your position now must be that facts don't matter and speculation is acceptable if you've been a member here for more years than he with whom you disagree.

Your position is laughable so I will laugh at it.

bbazor

Go ahead and laugh. Laughing is good for your health. It is also better than attacking and causing drama on a forum that is meant to discuss issues in the Philippines and help people with less experience.

Bill you have a point. More and more in Canadians people are saying " we cant trust the Americans anymore ", and im sure in Europe too . In the UK is rampant- American Hate ! !!! . I Cringe when I hear this for various reasons . I cant stand hearing this !!
The USA MUST keep Taiwan safe and the Philippines . they have too or its over .

I love the old USA and the Philipines .... we must get though this . I hear from some of my friends that the Philippines and the US are spiralling down in crime another criminal activities. Actually, same here in Canada. Just probably to a lesser extent. Funny how somethings remain content in this time of "oddness" . The big question is how do countries remain vigilant when you take down your borders, you become socialist, or a ship without a rudder? It's a very difficult task.

I apologize. I as wrong.

This is a forum for Expates.

Whatever you are going through and whatever the need to get out... should be on the table.

I went back to visit some old forums and archive discussions. They all had their unique focus and characters.

However, the common focus was always on whatever the community members needed most.

So, if you need an forum express ideas, complaints, or sentiments... go for it.

If I dislike it, that's on me. I'm coming to the realization you need "whatever is going on here" more than I do.

My apologies,
-Asawa

P.S. I wrote something quite different a few days ago, and it never appeared. I assume it's awaiting moderation because I added a picture. Disregard if it pops up later.

I don't know where you're getting the idea there's rampant hate for Americans in the UK Surf but as someone who has lived there over 50yrs you couldn't be further from the truth. A large proportion of our tourists come from the US and we welcome them with open arms.

Snowy - Im getting my information from Many of my relative are American , which is not too unusual for Canadians. I am a big fan of the USA , its constitution( "brilliant" as you would say ) and its people .

surfingcebu

Snowy , Canadians are getting misinformation from our publicly funded broadcasters - Basically Ottawa's view of the USA . The tide is changing for the USA and its likability . Our polls here have a neutral or slightly unfavourable view of American foreign policy . The CBC, CTV, Global news ( all of which take gobs of tax money from Ottawa ) take shots at the USA daily . They also takes shots at the leadership of the RP . It saddens me that people can be so gullible as to think their "news" is actually news , rather than a lobby arm of our Liberal Government . Of course I love both country's , warts and all . BUT , this is the news people are getting and using to formulate their opinions . Just reporting whats goign on . Where are. you getting your news from ? What do you think of YOUR government recent "condemnation of the USA" . Very harsh words. for tea sipping , verbose government , dont you think? I do ! Do you review your parliaments daily business and foreign policy stances ?

Snowy - In the morning paper --- "Three officials, representing Canada’s foreign affairs, intelligence and defence departments, told The Globe and Mail , and other National Journalists , that Ottawa was not consulted about the pact. It had no idea about the trilateral agreement until U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison made the announcement Wednesday. The exclusion was insisted upon by Biden- Harris and that Biden does not View Canada as a friend by this move " . DO you see how the press in Canada is swaying the View Canadians have on the USA ? It disappoints me . The USA are. our friends and relatives . SURF !

Snowy29: I agree. I visited there for 5 weeks (London, Northern England, Wales, and Scotland. The people there were fantastic and very helpful. They reached out to assist me several times even though I didn't ask for help. I was even invited to a big wedding party at a hotel in Wales. They fed me and we talked for hours. Great people.
