Are there particular islands or parts of some that are subject to terrorism? Are there others that may be declining in safety as time moves on?

Are there some homes designed to withstand the horrific impact of super typhoons?

Are medical specialists readily available in the areas of dermatology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology,
cardiology.....as well a primary care physicians?

What relationship do the Philippine Islands have China?

Super typhoons flatten nearly everything. So even if your house survived, you could not live there for a very long time, no electricity no running water, no drinking water, flooding and disease rampant, and of course no good medical care. No cell phone, no internet, basically you are cut off completely.
Island living has obvious appeal, but it can have some big drawbacks, regular power cuts bad or no cell phone connection bad or no internet connection. If you need hospital, not always very good at all. Some islands off mindanaou are just not safe at all.
Do some very thorough research and then some More research. Life here is nothing like it is in the west, and the further you get away from the hustle, and bustle the less infrastructure you will have.

Please remember, Crime and Terrorism are two different topics. Crime is far more common that Terrorism, and terrorism is only one type of a crime.

A timeline of every notable Terrorist Attack in the Philippines is available on Wikipedia. It also includes a map pin and a short description:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_in_the_Philippines

If you skim it, you'll see some patterns. There haven't been as many in the last few years. If you skim the map points, it's obvious that most are in the south (many on Mindanao... or small Islands to it's east like Jolo).

Before you get to excited, make sure you read what incident involves. And consider how many are more than 12 years old (prior to 2010).

Also remember that 22 years is about a "Generation" in the Philippines. Quite a bit can change in a generation.

If you want low crime, low terrorism, low heat, and low humidity.... you will quickly narrow your search down to a few locations. They come up so often on this forum, you'll have no problem finding them.

Ranson- the relationship with China is an interesting question ? Why did you ask this question?... most uninformed expats dont . The answer is so very complex and can change on regime changes here in the RP .

It ebbs and flows depending on governments in power . What IS a fact thought is China / CCP is on a multi-generational expansion ( 9 dashed lines etc ) into SE Asia and beyond . The next flash point will be Taiwan- get ready for that one . So , trade and influence with China is growing , to what point is the 'tipping point' who knows ... But a valid question and concern .

Thanks for your response. I believe I read or heard months ago that China had donated possibly some military equipment to the PHilippines...I know there had been non-military donations but if there had been military I would think maybe to interdict terrorists in the islands...think maybe at the most might be gunned speed boats, firearms, etc., but really am clueless...but just wondering if there's ever concern with expats of China claiming the Islands.

China's slow expansion (in terms of decades, generations, and centuries) can be a hot topic around here.

Aside from Chinese Infrastructure loans to the PH Government, legal fights over fishing rights, and some territorial issues about natural/artificial islands.... there should be no direct impacts to expats for 20-30 years.

If you start a family in the Philippines, the issues of Chinese Imperial Expansionism may be more relevant to them during their lifetimes.

I'm reluctant to even say this much, because the topic usually opens a devolving floodgate on this form.

Asawa - good points and the member was smart to ask it ! Very forward thinking question . Its hard to predict when China will take out Taiwan and such- BUT it will try !.XI has a lot of pressure to expand and take out Taiwan . Also, IT DOES consider the West Philippine Sea as there territorial rights , even though the international courts in The Hague ruled against China several times. Do you still want artificial islands and missile launching pounds in the west Philippine sea. So I don't think it is such a benign issue as we believe or wish it to be. Ask any Hong Kong'er how things are going . China never kept their promises and now the CCP runs everything - zero democracy .

I wish the CCP has no designs on the RP , but they very much do. Hard to predict when though. Much like predicting a VERY large stock market correction ... you know it's going to happen, but pretty much impossible to predict the fallout and lasting effects .
.
In typical fashion the CCP has not "precisely" articulated – in terms familiar to sea lawyers or diplomats – what its nine-dash line in the South China and West Philippine Sea means. That ambiguity leaves plenty of room for possible over-interpretation, particularly when coupled with some of the actions that China has taken in response to perceived incursions recently within the area bounded by that line. ....so , an excellent question about the perceived notion and stability in the region .

China has made many infrastructure loans and funded projects ( most half complete ) prior to DU30 and the CCP having a falling out , so things are sitting sideways now . The RP election coming up should provide clarity on the CCP question though going forward for 5-9 years . I would hate to see the RP move too close to China - they have already moved closer than I would with loans and projects ect ...

anyway , my 3 cents ,

Surf !

Asawa- we better help Taiwan NOW , rather than waiting for the next generation. I was brought up in SE Asia / RP and understand the CCP mind explicitly. I would not wait to defend Taiwan. . Emperor Xi has heat course for domination domino’s
