US Bank and credit card accounts

Have people been able to keep their US bank and credit card accounts without a US address? Do you use a mail forwarding service for a US address? We will probably be selling our condo, but keeping the money in a US bank and just accessing it as needed. At this point we only plan on renting, at least for a couple of years.

I Have a US bank account and use a friend's address. But I don't have a US cell phone and that has caused a problem. And has with PayPal to.
When I tried to pay using the Wells Fargo Zelle service and the payee was a new one they wanted to send me an SMS message with a code. As I couldn't access it I was unable to make the payment that way. I use my debit card frequently here but occasionally have found it is not able to be accepted.

Forwarding addresses are registered with the postal service and banks have access to the data. I had several banks refuse a forwarding address.

My US mail goes to https://www.sbimailservice.com/ Been with them since 2011. No complaints. Recommended.

That was the easy part. Being able to receive a 2FA (Two Factor Authentication, the name for receiving a 4 digit code via SMS) while outside the US took more work. This topic has been discussed at length on many sites. Best sources I found were from those whose working lives depended on it. Google these three words: 2FA digital nomad. Start reading articles and posts dated 2019, then work backwards by year.

You'll also need a VPN to access a bank website. Otherwise they'll know you're out of the country. Ideally, the VPN would allow you to pick a server in the city of your mail forwarding service.
