I am 55year young widow in Virginia. Born in South Korea and moved to US and living now for 35yrs. Lost my love 3yrs ago and now looking for new surrounding.
I am US citizen. I roamed around Europe last few yrs to get away but fell in love with all the cities and cultures. My husband was German descendant and promised me trips but went to heaven. I have means to support my move to Portugal (No. I am not filthy rich Asian women TV show kind ;). ..
My question is it it safe for Asian in PT? I experienced racism when I move to US 1985 but now it is not bad.
I did read all 95pages of this forum starting last page to first so I would do my homework for last 3days. I did not see any other ethnic group.
Now my eyes hurting reading off of cellphone. Haha.
Ahhh. My question is , is there any asian expats and any race issues? I know Chinese. Japanese. Koreans are every where Europe (they are filthy Rich Asian women)
I would appreciate your inputs.
By the way CRAIGANDMIKI. OLDPRO you two are darlings. I will make you Korean BBQ and fresh kimchi when I get there and few others, Bless all of you for helping other lost ones. Got will bless you ..
95pages forum was fun to read. I laughed alot and was better than romance paper bag. Thanks.
Choi

Although there are racists in just about every country and culture, I do not think you will experience racism here in Portugal, even as much as you might in certain areas of the US. My wife and I are from the US (DC area) and moved here in October. I also lived here as a young man 40 years ago. The Portuguese are unusually friendly, welcoming and overall charming people. They colonized many areas of the world, and rented Macau from China similar to how the British rented HK. I believe that you would be welcomed with open arms by both the Portuguese and the expat community. I have noticed a number of Asian Americans on holiday in the Algarve. By the way, how far along are you in preparations for moving? My wife is visiting friends in Springfield, VA right now and if you are interested, she would be happy to meet with you. Blessings to you in your decision making, John

To 'Choisookgand': You might hear from many people in response to how Portuguese accept persons from other ethnicities and cultures. Among our hundreds of friends and acquaintances here, all of whom are warmly welcomed, are persons from nearly every country, race, color, religion and persuasion. Portuguese are among the most culturally adept persons and will be happy to help you, talk to you, live alongside you and become your friends.
